QuoteBut I think that maybe this is proof  of the idea that the guys shouldn't riff comedies, even if the movie is unintentionally funny

Well, Future War is hysterical on its own, unintentionally, and its one of my favorite MST's of all time.

Never heard of it.

Oh wait... do you mean "Ooh Heaven is a Place On Earth: The Movie", staring Jean Claude Gosh Darnit?

Mmm-hmmmm.  Because, we're not in the future, and, this isn't a war, but, you know me, I don't like to complain....

You know, before getting some context in this thread, I thought GFY stood for "Good for you" I'd make a horrible online motivational speaker.

"You just came up with a great idea! GFY!"

Oops. I DID think it meant "Good for you." I failed Internet-Acronym-Speak 101. I will now go DIAF while ROFLMAO. WTF.

Everyone not liking the extended Disembaudio parts did realize that they were there to purposefully distract us from the horror of the love scenes, right? I mean....did we interpret them wrong? Was there a misunderstanding? Why would anyone want to watch those scenes without some kind of really, really distracting distraction? All I can say is that Rifftrax saved us from hammering icepicks into our eyes. For this, I am forever grateful.

Oh, no. I understand WHY they did it. And it was indeed distracting. Like a q-tip made of steel wool kicked into my ear cavity by Bruce Lee. It just wasn't funny.  Besides,  those little skits may have distracted people from the "love scenes", but it also distracted everybody from the lump on Lisa's back that at first looks like a big mole, then it falls off and for one split second you think its a scab that just fell off and you're just about to puke when you see it flutter and you realize with clammy, sweaty relief it was a rose petal all along.
Also, while Future War, Werewolf, etc are indeed awful, none of them reach the depths of "despair for the human race" bad or the heights of laughter like The Room does.  It's not just the worst movie of all time, it's the worst THING of all time.  The reason the movie sends people into hysterical laughter because it's so alien, there's no response the psyche can come up with but laughter.  And while I understand that I'm in the extreme minority, I believe that the guys didn't improve on the soul crushing hilarity that was the Room.  Forget Casablanca (which I quite enjoyed), The Room was the real challenge that (again, my opinion, which isn't popular) they weren't up for.

See, now to me that sounds funny.

See, for me, The Room was the opposite of Casino Royale.

Casino Royale was the movie that taught me that I can still really enjoy a RiffTrax even on a movie I genuinely liked.

The Room was the movie that taught me that sometimes "so bad they're good" movies don't benefit greatly from being riffed.

The thing is, The Room is so bad, so essentially self-mocking that it's... well, it's too easy a target. I mean, it's not that the riff wasn't funny and all, but I consistently saw the jokes coming. That's not meant to knock the guys - it's just that the jokes were just kind of obvious, because the movie's flaws are. The badness of The Room speaks for itself such that it really doesn't need help.

The same concept (riffing a "so bad it's good" cult classic) worked really well with the Star Wars Holiday Special, but here, while I appreciate the effort and I'm not saying it sucked, it just didn't add a lot to the experience.
