Can't Remember a Title

Hey movie buffs, I've been trying to remember the title of a movie I saw on TV a while ago and for the life of me can't.  I've tried searching IMDB and so forth, but since all I remember is the plot it's kind of hard to come up with a succinct search.

But I bet some or maybe even most of you know it.

It's from the 70s, and it's all about this supercomputer that America builds to control its nuclear weapons.  The Russians (?) also have one of their own supercomputers, and eventually the two computers start talking to each other and sort of become one giant evil super-duper-computer that ends up nuking a couple of cities.  The scientist in charge of this thing comes up with some elaborate plan to try and take back control of the nukes, and there's this whole subplot about how the computer is watching this guy live and he pretends to have sex with his assistant while they're carrying out this plan.

But in the end he can't fool the computer (it turns out the computer was onto his plan all along) and the end of the movie is basically that this evil machine takes over the world.  And the cheery moral is that people will accept this rule because we're all kind of followers anyway.

I know some of you have seen this - what is it called?

Wow, how did you remember that.

Reading on IMDB, it actually sounds pretty good.

Actually I remembered Colossus, then I did a search on "Colossus Supercomputer"

???  The way that you remember any movie that impresses you, I guess.

Some of us even own it on video.

Thank you TripeHoundRedux!  I knew someone with a better brain would remember this.

It's certainly not the worst movie in the world, although it's very dated.  I was actually impressed by the fact that there was no happy ending - whoops, spoiler alert.  I doubt a movie with such a dour ending would be made for general consumption today.

If I can think of any more films that I don't know the title of, I'll stop by here first.

Wasn't stock footage from that used in Riding With Death?

Hell, Riding with Death reused footage of it's own when it could, so it wouldn't surprise me any.

Bob

Just added to the top of my netflix queue...... thanks for the tip guys.

But if it sucks...... oh, you will SO pay

I don't believe any footage from this was used in RWD.  There are scenes in both with women looking at computer screens, so maybe that's what you're thinking of.

Spoiler - It's a pretty good movie, although you can pretty much tell right from the beginning that the people are screwed.
