Do you mean like how someone who likes Twilight couldn't possibly enjoy 'good' music? that sort of thing?

Please at least try to think of your own retorts, you'd think you'd be practiced enough at ranting.

Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

Is that really what you're going with? that I have to be a Twilight fan to be bothered by your constant arrogant and pointless negativity?  I guess since I'm the only person who's noticed it this week alone then that must be true.

I hear about Twilight at least twice as much here as I do in real life and the smug, looking down on people who enjoy the books or movies is the only issue I have with the series.

Even though I despise the Twilight series, I am glad that it defeated 2012 in it's opening weekend! Heck, even BLIND SIDE beat 2012! I guess you could say 2012 was BLIND SIDED BY BLIND SIDE!  ;D

And I'm the only one been negative about Twilight in this thread and the several others on the board...

And about the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes film in this thread ("which hasn't come out yet" as people keep throwing at me).

Or the "What have we learned" thread about Star Trek (which a lot of those points about the film seem strangely familiar).

And yet, I'm the only one here who's ever tarred as "negative".

Does anyone else find it at all creepy that Stephenie Meyer is writing about an unhealthy relationship and young girls primarily are swallowing it up? Edward acts in just as obsessive a way as Bella but yet their psychoses is being deified. I fear that these young girls will think that stalking is an acceptable facet of courtship instead of seeing it as an unhealthy behavior. I am so afraid that this will cause girls...and guys...to openly trust someone because using Twilight as a template the stalker who has been dogging them is supposed to be a guy just like Edward Cullen. These movies and the books are doing a horrible job of telling its fans that such intense fascination from the stalker could turn into a very violent situation. I think of Ted Bundy a lot, a very handsome guy who charmed most of his victims then brutally murdered them...and worse.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Yes.  But if you mention it "you just don't understand", "you're old" or you're a "hater".

BTW, if you like the unhealthy relationship of Bella and Edward, you'll love that Meyers has Bella getting on a motorcycle with some random biker she picks up in front of a bar.....and then makes it seem like all she had to do was tell the guy she didn't want to ride anymore and he'd just take her back and drop her off no problem.

Yeah, girls...all that stuff your parents told you about the dangers of hitchhiking?  You'll be alright as long as you're in love.

If people want to call me too old, they're more than welcome to. But I am perplexed that a woman of Stephie Meyer's age can happily write about this twisted couple and think that it's what love should be about. Here is a woman who is old enough to remember guys like Ted Bundy and how they lured their prey with blind trust. And here she is writing about a character who puts her faith in the hands of dangerous people, who in the books take her away from a more normal, fruitful life, which was her choice granted, yet the author makes it sound like Edward is the best thing for Bella while making a guy like Jacob, who despite being a werewolf is more socially well adjusted, seem much less preferable in comparison even though Jacob has saved Bella numerous times instead of putting her in harm's way like Edward has. What s this telling young girls who read these books, that it's alright to accomodate the pervy stalker especially if he's hot? It just pisses me off to no end that these sorts of things have become socially acceptable. At least the Babysitter's Club books never had stories in them that condoned unhealthy relationships with stalkers.

Okay, that was about 45 minutes too long! Tomorrow, I've gotta get myself one of these...

What an entertainingly silly franchise! I love it.

Actually, I was thinking the whole story could have been told in 45 minutes of film....

BTW........I know I'm not supposed to ask questions that might in anyway cast doubt on this set of books and movies being the greatest thing since the creation of the Universe but....

Don't even have to go as far as a Ted Bundy....

Bella's set up as some kind of female ideal because no matter how many injuries, scars and other brushes with death she goes through, she's defending the man she "loves" (literally) to the death.

These books very well could be raising a new generation of enablers for wife-beaters.

You'd think w/ Bella being a vegetarian, they'd have commemorative veggie-burger shots, but no.

That was something new to the movies.  In the book she wasn't a vegetarian, I don't think.
