And to Think I thought it was the 3 Superstars doing all the writing.. Like back in the good'ol days :o

This is a common misconception.  Kevin Murphy never did any writing at all.  Although he speaks perfectly fluent English, he cannot write a single intelligible word of the language.

3 Superstars?  Sorry, Superstars were never involved.  Just we three schlubs.   (More serious: thanks, you flatterer.)

We still do the majority of the writing and editing.  But Conor has been helping for a looonnnnng time now, and Sean has been full-time at Rifftrax for about six months, I think.   Both are fantastic, very funny  writers... the equal of anyone who has ever done this odd little comedy art, in my humble humble.

Use of other contributers = still quite minimal, but in order to continue the level of output AND have other lives, we three don't attempt to write every single line ourselves.  We're the final edit, though, and stuff changes a lot during rehearsal days.

Kevin still writes 100% of the fart jokes, if it's any consolation.  (I know. It's not for me, either.)

But with you and Kevin living in Minnesota, do you all get a chance to write together "MST3K writers room" style anymore?

Only just.

offered us some writing for the Christmas Shorts live show in December.

And they even used a little of it, too.  A minor point, I know, but I thought it worth mentioning.

how does that even work? Did you just start mailing them your jokes on pieces of candy wrapper?

Sort of.  I wrote them in my Fruit o' the Looms, then hurled them onstage during one of the live shows.

Ah. I think it'd be considered germ warfare if I did that.

Are you hiding WMDs in your BVDs?

Mr. Joseph Scrimshaw AKA 'The Guy I Did A SFSketchfest Show With in January' contributed to AVATAR.  He can be found here:

And finally, Mr. Steve Lutz AKA Steve-O, beloved by this forum (or at least tolerated by this forum), offered us some writing for the Christmas Shorts live show in December.

Thank you very much, one and all!

Oops, forgot to mention that Joseph Scrimshaw also contributed on TERMINATOR SALVATION.

Not as much, but yes, towards the end of the process when Kevin and I are out in San Diego.  The MST3K writers room was a lot of fun, but in terms of writing there it could actually be pretty inefficient.  Lots of riffs blurted out and dutifully recorded for paused movie moments that couldn't be used, because of space, time, etc... you know, all those dimension things.

Thanks for answering my question. It's cool to know you all get to still do that. I know from my experience on the Skype video conferencing writing session with Quiptracks that it is just the most fun. I think it's funny to hear you talk about ineffiiency, though , when on MST you guys would (from what I've heard) spend a day or two and get through the whole movie. But we averaged about an hour for each movie minute. And beleive me, when that movie is over two hours long, and the movie is HULK (2003), that makes for some long ass writing sessions.

Not quite accurate.  IIRC, we spent two separate days doing a first draft as a group.  Then some of us would split up that script and do another draft, usually took two more days.  Then another read-through / review day, and also Mike and whoever wasn't filming SOL / Mads stuff helping whenever and wherever possible.  In other words:  still a LONG process.
