I purchased NOLD  on DVD with mike Commentary years ago when it first came out. I was kind of dissapointed. It wasn't very MST3K like. It was more conversational.

So needless to say I just downloaded the riff I am excited to see the full on treatment.

It's probably in the same vein as Mike's Reefer Madness solo track: more trivial and informational with some comedic stuff thrown in, versus an all out riff. I like both styles, personally.

While I never double checked I am pretty sure that all the trivia and anecdotal comments on the Legend DVDs were made up by Mike. Those tracks always felt like a parody of  "real" commentary tracks.

If I bought the DVD, I'd have the option to watch the movie with rifftrax commentary or without. Your recent VODs don't seem to have this available, and I was curious if there were plans to release the unriffed source audio tracks for those who want to watch the movie unriffed.

Yes, this time I was able to include both source audio tracks. I hope to put the others up there as well.

I should clarify it's more for the people who want to remix on their own. The VOD files themselves only include the one audio track, which is the humorous commentary, or "riff tracks" as they have come to be known. That's mostly what we sell here. :)

Dude, you're pulling my leg. I only see one audio track in the MPEG, and no source audio tracks in a separate zipped file.   ???

I just realised something, are these re-visits partly about having more public domain movies (and lovely restored/colourised versions at that) for live shows so the guys don't have to keep doing Plan 9 all the time?

If they want to do Missile as a live show, and Fred isn't going to be there, it might be a good idea to have one with Kevin and Bill's mark on it already for them to work with as opposed to them just picking up Fred's lines.  I fully endorse the existing track, and even if the new one is fantastic I'll still suggest people go back and try the Fred version, but if this is even part of the motive behind these tracks then it makes sense to me.

(All based on speculation, but hey, sounds good to me.)

Yeah this all makes total sense to me too.  CT is really getting ambitious with their live tour now, rotating out the movies and everything so it follows that Rifftrax would want to do the same.  I'm hoping there will be another live show at ComicCon this year!  I'm very happy with the new releases so far.  They are a big improvement on the originals, plus I bought the DVDs the first time around so I don't have to search for copies.  Quite honestly, I never even made it through the whole commentary for Swing Parade (It felt more like one of Mike's Legend Films commentaries than a real Rifftrax anyway) so the new version should be interesting.  And if the goal is to try and move more of the Legend Films DVD catalog, I agree they should riff Phase IV.  The movie scared the crap out of me as a kid plus you've got the tie in to very early MST3K.  I somehow doubt you'd find any recycled jokes there.

Damn, you're right. Should be fixed now. Sorry 'bout that. :/

I really don't get the Three Stooges thing, especially when Mike claims to be a fan. I mean apart from, "We owned the rights." Why does the "never riff comedy" rule get thrown out the window for this? Twice?

I get REDOING it, because it makes it a real Rifftrax. I just don't get riffing it in general.

Edward J Grug III

Well, calling it a comedy is a bit strong. The bits with the Stooges in it are attempts at humour, but those bits are short.
FINE

I'm definitely going to give Swing Parade a shot. If anything it's a nice break from comic book hero riffs.  ;)
I like variety and this definitely gives us that.

But if Spider-Man 3 taught us anything, it's that the Stooges were superheroes.

I think.

They didn't absolutely have to do Missile to the Moon, considering that the first commentary was already a RiffTrax (as opposed to appearing on a DVD first, and then being redone for the website), and the previous effort, with Fred Willard, was already funny enough. :-\

I'm not complaining. Just suggesting that there are other Legend titles that could be riffed, that they haven't done already.
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

The version with Mike and Fred didn't sell very well. The popular belief is that this is due to customer's reluctance to pick up old movies. I imagine that redoing it with Mike, Kevin, and Bill is part of an experiment to see if customers are 1) more interested in checking it out if Kevin and Bill are present and 2) more emphasis is put on it being a VOD like the shorts instead of just an mp3/DVD sync deal.

It is probably more for the VOD aspect since it seems like a lot of people like the convenience of pre-synced material. I just hope that the regular MP3s sell well enough that will convince the powers that be that 3-man riffs of older flicks could be financially viable.

If these releases are fairly successful, they may stick with more Legend Film material just so they can keep providing the older films themselves. They'll have more control that way and they won't have to worry about another DVD company making the film go OOP and hurting sales.

bratpop

If they're just trying to increase the sales of poor selling Rifftrax, why don't they just put pictures of bacon on all of them? That's more appealing than some guy named Kevin and some other guy not named Kevin.

gojikranz

so the new three riffer version is going to be released on the new 3d notld dvd from legend right?  i had heard that before, if so ill probably wait and just get the dvd i like simplicity :)  defintately happy about this redo though cause i though notld was the worst of the legend releases.
