What, no Zooey????
Gotta agree on that one. Holy crap was she was bad in that movie!

Nope, sorry, I don't see your dignity. Mine either, although that isn't surprising.

Which is the biggest tragedy since she's usually really good. Thank God this didn't kill her career.
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

I think it might keep her from being a box office star, though.

She's better in the little movies anyway.

So Meet Dave didn't even get included? I would have imagined that the guys would have a lot of fun with the idead that one of their own was involved with a Razzie winner.

Eddie Murphy was nominated for 'Worst Actor' and 'Worst Screen Couple'.

I think that the Razzies have the same sort of popularity-contest mentality as the Oscars/etc. There were far worse films than Meet Dave and The Love Guru released this year, but I doubt the nominators had even heard of them. I can definitely say, without any hesitation at all, that An American Carol is far worse than either of these movies, and I've only seen the trailers and a few clips.

As for Uwe Boll being "Germany's answer to Ed Wood": Ed Wood made entertaining bad movies, and actually enjoyed making them. He is far above Uwe Boll in every way possible.
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

And you'd be wrong.

I've seen all six films nominated as well as An American Carol and all of the nominees deserve to be there. (Well, maybe not The Happening. It's bad, but it seems to be on there because of M Night's name being on it. If Joe Smith had directed it, I doubt that it would have been nominated.) Frankly, even if you removed all six current nominees, Carol still wouldn't be on the list. Hell, off the top of my head, you could nominate Postal, One Missed Call, Max Payne, Prom Night, Witless Protection and Made of Honor. And you still wouldn't be near nominating Carol.

Look, American Carol is in the same ballpark as Superhero Movie: A film with some decent jokes and a lot of scenes where you can see the missed opportunities.   But I at least chuckled at some jokes. I didn't  even do that in the four "comedies" nominated by the Razzies. It's not a good film by any means, but it's not the humorless bottom of the barrel that was nominated. Hell, it wasn't even as bad as Fool's Gold.

And watching An American Carol was more entertaining than watching either Religulous or Expelled.

You can have any opinion you want, but I found what I've seen from An American Carol to be on the same level as any of the Friedberg/Seltzer spoofs...and of all of those, the most I've seen of any of them, was about 30 minutes of Date Movie. And I'd definitely say that what I've seen from An American Carol is equal to what I've seen of Larry the Cable Guy's stand-up. It can't be better than Witless Protection.

And I've actually seen more of Postal than any of these - I can say without hesitation that what I've seen from An American Carol is equal to Postal. Again, I haven't watched the movie from start to finish, but I've seen enough of it to know that it deserved to be nominated.

Never heard of An American Carol, am I right in assuming it has something to do with charles dickens?
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

Poor Charlie, he didn't ask for his art to be copied into a crappy film.

Structurally yes.

Unless you count that the Ghost of America Past (or whatever it was called) in the visage of General Patton and played by Kelsey Grammer appears all through the movie instead of just saying his piece and going.

Guess Zucker couldn't let go of the biggest name (???) in the film.

(didn't actually see it - read that in a review.  it also says that Zucker and Co. say all through the commentary that they were rewriting constantly and that all the jokes suck)

Yeah, that was one of the issues that I had with the film, breaking too much away from the Dickens model. Part of the problem may have been the casting.
Jon Voight plays George Washington, who's the Ghost of Christmas Present. Frankly, he's great. I'd cheerfully watch 2 hours of Voight playing Washington. And that's a problem with the film. In the commentary track, they mention that they had to cut back Voight's scenes drastically because, well, he had too good of a performance. After his scene, it took the audience too long to get back into the "Oh, yeah. We're watching a comedy" mindset. Frankly, it they had cast Dennis Hopper as Washington, the movie might have had a better comedic flow. But as it stands, the Christmas present stuff goes about 2-3 mintues. Some of it gets rolled into Grammer's part, but they really needed a more sustantial Present to make the Dickens framework work.

Having heard the commentary track, they don't quite say that the jokes all sucked, but they were clearly unhappy with the finished script. As an outside observer, it really needed another draft, but apparently the writer's strike made that a no-go.

From what I've read, this whole thing should have been a no-go.

Liberals aren't above lampooning - Team America? - but this just sounded pathetic.
