I'm getting a little tired of all these recent movies.

Rifftrax does bad movies.

I couldn't disagree more.  Rifftrax does movies that can be mocked.

Raiders, Lord of the Rings, Sixth Sense, Memento - these are good movies that can be mocked, and have been.

Maybe that's part of your frustration level - mis-set customer expectation?

So four or five exceptions out of 70+ releases.  I think you're working pretty hard to disagree with me at this point.  I listed a few exceptions, too.

While I'll agree that they focus on more modern movies (and some I consider not really that riffable), they've done a whole bunch of films over 20 years old:

Dirty Dancing
Road House
Over the Top
Cocktail
Top Gun
Missile to the Moon
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Star Wars Holiday Special
Predator
Alien
Troll 2
Plan 9 from Outer Space
Swing Parade
House on the Haunted Hill
Little Shop of Horrors
Carnival of Souls
Night of the Living Dead
Reefer Madness
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
Nestor, the Long Eared Donkey
Halloween
Point Break
Star Trek V
Star Trek VI

There.  Fixed the list for you.   ;)

Bob: Turkey.

Action Batch:  Woah, let's all mellow out and rap about this.

Doctor Who?

So shorts and movies not done by Mike,BIll,and Kevin don't count as Rifftrax?

When did this happen?

Never said that.

The argument is that some of us would like to see Mike, Kevin, and Bill riff older full length movies.  I've stated this to be my position from the very beginning.

You can fix the list if you want to (though the only one that probably shouldn't be on there is Dirty Dancing), but that doesn't change the fact that those films are a part of the Rifftrax catalogue.  They represent what the guys have put out.  The only sad thing about it is that most of those movies were done a relatively long time ago, in terms of Rifftrax history.

I suppose part of it is perspective.  I crossed these five off because when they were released on DVD they were not under the Rifftrax banner:

House on the Haunted Hill
Little Shop of Horrors
Carnival of Souls
Night of the Living Dead
Reefer Madness

I purchased these before Rifftrax even launched.  So, to me, they're not official Rifftrax.  Even if they are now in their catalog.  I'd compare those releases to a side project like The Film Crew.  But I can see how people who've never seen them before would consider these to be Rifftrax.  It's a technicality.

That's been part of my argument all along.  They used to riff quite a few older flicks.  They no longer do.  It is why I've brought up this point over the past year.

I'm tired of them doing all these old movies. "The Happening"? That came out MONTHS ago!

Hey, me too.  I think I voiced my disappointment back when Matrix Reloaded was announced.  Waitasecond:

I just did a count and, with about a handful of exceptions, every Rifftrax could be classified as Sci-Fi/Fantasy or Action.  And the action is typically so over the top that it wouldn't be hard to argue that it meets a lot of criteria for fantasy.  I'm just pointing this out to help save on 20Q's.  I think it's a safe bet that it's one of these three just about every time.

Which is why I'm a little disappointed that The Matrix has come around again.  Don't get me wrong, I loved the Riff of the first one and I'll check this one out, but I'd really like to see a bit more variety in the titles that are chosen.

I think I've just come to terms with the fact that Rifftrax doesn't do those kinds of movies anymore.  The mods can say "well, you never know", but we do.  That's why the 20Qs games are so easy now.  This, or some form of it, is usually the first question: "Did it come out after 2000?"  Perhaps iRiffs and Rifftrax Presents is some way to ameliorate fans that are getting a little tired of the choices, but people still want to hear the guys take on films like Dune or Red-Dawn.

I think they're probably very comfortable with the "sameness" of bad movies these days. If they go back to something like Dune, they're forcing a whole other level of suck on themselves (maybe Dune doesn't "suck" but it's definately a failure of galactic and unprecedented levels). I'm sure anyone would prefer riffing a bad movie from this decade to one with a full no-name crew shot through a hole in a cardboard box.

Yeah, but that's an unfair comparison.  Who said they wanted unknown films? People are asking for well-known films from a different decade other than the 00s.  Someone even brought up Star Wars: A New Hope.

The thing is, even if they say it won't affect them, is that once they're riffed by the community, will they want to do it themselves? We can point to the first Harry Potter, but wasn't that a case of happenstance rather than the guys knowing about RRT doing it first?

In chat we're always betting that we'll guess the movie in five questions or less.  And the results do speak to Rifftrax current predictability.  It does make us wonder why they even bother having 20 Questions games if they're going to continue to be this predictable.  That's not a complaint to any of you mods.  More of a musing.

I do agree with you about Rifftrax not doing any of those kinds of movies anymore.  It's sad, really.  Oh well.

I suppose that iRiffs can "test the waters" in terms of a film's desirabilty though.  If Tron is getting a lot of interest, perhaps the guys will consider doing something similar to it.

I must admit I'm a little biased (which way, I dunno... sort of the middle). I want them to do Hellboy, Hulk and Batman Begins. And I don't consider those recent, but some people would. I can't think of an 80s movie I want them to do. I think if they didn't do the year's summer movies, people would still complain. Okay, Red Dawn, Dune, Star Wars. What else other than those?
