It bears mentioning at this juncture that Robert Crumb, creator of Fritz the Cat, disliked the movie so intensely that he killed off the character shortly after the film's release.

Crumb is petty and bitter.

OR he didn't like the way his character was used and/or the movie.

Yes, only a petty bitter fool would complain about his creation being completely ruined... for example, a director who would blame the studio for his shithouse movie.  That sort of thing.

Crumb is petty and bitter because, even though he was paid for that movie and Bakshi got screwed over and received absolutely no money from it (or Heavy Traffic), Crumb still bitches about Bakshi ruining his goddamn cat when Bakshi didn't ruin Fritz the Cat. He improved on it. And Crumb is jealous of him for it.

Why would you take the side of a soulless corporation over an artist? Why do you think that Bakshi is to blame when a studio tells him that he can't tell the story he wants to and forces him to make a shitty movie that he was never interested in making by threatening him with a lawsuit?

I don't get that you complain that Stephen King-authorized adaptations suck because he's a "self-important hack", then come in here bashing me for implying that Robert Crumb is even the slightest bit dishonest?

That's our ScottH! [laugh track]

Wait just a second!

You two don't like each other, do you?

And you have differing opinions on your tastes!

And you enjoy saying it to each other over and over again!

Petey Wheatstraw

I'm saying that ScottH is a hypocrite for trying to defend Crumb's "artistic integrity" when he bashes others who've had the same complaint (King had a problem with Kubrick over The Shining) because he thinks that Stephen King is a "self-important hack". ???

Crumb made more money off of Fritz the Cat than Bakshi ever did. And this schmuck now lives on a chateau in France and is still bitching about it!

All movies based on Steven King books would be "Steven King authorized" but I'm guessing you mean the ones he supports, I called him a self important hack because I think his books suck, that doesn't have anything to do with his taste in movies, how much money he made (which you keep going back to over and over again for some reason) or anything else.

I mean exactly what you meant when you said:
Quote from: ScottH on September 08, 2008, 06:07:47 AMKing approved movies almost always suck, possibly because King is a self-important hack.

My point is that your argument seems to be that Crumb might have genuinely had a problem with the quality of Bakshi's film, whereas because you hate King, you think that unfaithful adaptations of his work are good because his books suck and King is "self-important". You have no problem making these kinds of statements about others, but when I make a similar comment about Robert Crumb having a problem with Ralph Bakshi, you get pissed off at me for some reason.

Holy crap I think you might be getting it.

Yes, *I* don't like Kings books and usually prefer what I'm told aren't faithful adaptions.  That is *my* opinion.

Crumb *could* genuinely have a problem with the adaption of his work because he *feels* it ruined his character.  That is his opionion.

You *think* the movie is better than the cartoon because to *you* the movie is great satire and *you* seem to think everything is about money or somthing I can't quite follow.  That is *your* opinion.

NONE of the 3 people above are wrong, they just have different opinions.

I'm not even remotely pissed off, I do find your regularly deleting your posts after someone replies to them frustrating but that's just because it makes the threads hard to read.

It's not about your opinion. It's about your attitude in projecting your opinion.

Gah, it's like watching the first two seasons of Moonlighting all over again. Will you two finally end the suspense, and just get it on, already?

I doubt either of  them fill a dress as well as Cybill Shepard though...

Yes, the picture was gratuitous, but who cares? :)
