So you deleted parts of your origional post after someone replied to it and then commented on my comment to re-state how good you think Fritz the Cat is?

...

I rewrote my post to clarify what I meant.

I agree with them on Fritz the Cat either way it seems more likely that's their opinion as opposed to being jelous of a pop-culture footnote from decades ago.

South Park is a footnote. Fritz the Cat is an important satire. And it's made more money than anything Stone and Parker will ever be involved with.

I'm pretty sure South Park has made more money than Fritz  the Cat.  Not to knock either one, but South Park was absolutely huge in its first few years, combined with the movie (which made 80 million worldwide), it's had more monetary success.

I don't know where you get that from, but South Park only made $52 million.

That's just the domestic total.  Worldwide it made $83 million.  That's what mrbasehart's talking about.

Besides which, box office numbers don't mean shit in regards to quality.

I wouldn't know, I've never seen it.  I loved the South Park movie, though.  I might watch Fritz sometime if you like it.  Then again, my tastes differ from yours in just about every way.  (Except Frank Zappa.  I like him, too).

Tripe

It's pretty difficult to see the business for South Park, at least on IMDB, but yes Fritz did to somewhere between 7-10 mil better, which taking inflation into account probably means it did more business than that.

That. Is. Your. Opinion.

I don't like Fritz the Cat.  I respect it for breaking the ground that it did.  But I don't like it.  That doesn't mean it's bad.  You don't like Matt and Trey.  That doesn't mean they're bad.

Isaac, you've come so far.  It's just this one thing you seem to struggle with.

And in regards to the more money = better argument, it reminds me of this:

That's not what I said. What I said was that the film that is of the better quality just happened to make more money.

And Fritz is of better quality than South Park because it's got more going on with it. Stone and Parker stumble in their attempts at satire of the MPAA and left-wing Hollywood, while Bakshi's commentary is as poignant as it was when his films were released. It basically goes back to the earlier comparison I had made between the kinds of political jokes Bob Hope and Groucho Marx told and the kinds of extremist jokes in David Zucker's latest films.

It bears mentioning at this juncture that Robert Crumb, creator of Fritz the Cat, disliked the movie so intensely that he killed off the character shortly after the film's release.
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.

uh huh... and what does that have to do with him not liking the movie?

*sigh* Since he once again deleted his post I should point out I was responding to Isaac saying Crub had glorifed rape in the Fritz cartoon.  I have to remember to hit 'quote' instead of reply next time... or just not waste my time in the first place.
