... that I like to wear used Depends on my head.

Is that for when you're so full of shit that it's coming out of your ears?

this must be the mature conversation you were referring to in another thread.  My mistake.   ;)
You can't understand the difference in context between this discussion and that other one.  What a surprise.

I know about your other discussion....it was a joke.

Moulin Rouge - How did they manage to convince millions that Nicole Kidman could sing? Her high pitched wail made me want to eat my own hand. I'm also a firm believer in musicals coming up with their OWN music instead of stealing someone else's. With this logic I also hated Mamma Mia.

Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

Wait, there are people who think that movie is good?  ???

Well, didn't Abba (or at least some of it) actually write Mamma Mia?

Nope, involved in the production yes; 3/4 of them in one way or another. However, unlike Chess, none of them actually wrote anything directly connected with the show except the tunes back in the day.

Yeah.   Don't ask me.

Gone with the WInd.

It was in color, and it was really long.  The furor over this movie is largely lost on us today.  (The book had sold like a kajillion copies during the heigth of the Depression.)  I can name ten better movies from the same year (1939):  Gunga Din, The Wizard of Oz, Stagecoach, Ninotchka, Goodbye, Mr. Chips, Dodge City, Destry Rides Again, The Roaring Twenties, Love Affair, and Beau Geste.   While tastes may vary, there is no question that The Wizard of Oz and Stagecoach proved to be more influential over time.

Star Wars

While this was one of the most popular and financially successful movies of all-time, I still think it is vastly overrated.  If Star Wars did not exist, someone else would have come along and done something equivalent, IMHO.  For one thing, Lucas didn't invent the Summer SFX Blockbuster, Spielberg did.  Don't get me wrong, this may be my favorite movie, but that doesn't mean it's not hideously overrated.

Citizen Kane

The cinematography that made Welles and Toland famous had been done before.  John Ford and Toland used all of the same techniques in Stagecoach.  On top of that, The Magnificent Ambersons is the better movie.

The Wild Bunch

There is literally nothing in this movie that hadn't been tried before in the Django Spaghetti Westerns.  Of course, mainstream critics didn't know any better at the time.  I don't actually think this movie is as highly regarded these days, so it may not fit the criteria.  (It's overrated, but not like it once was...)

And Susan's not halloween! She's Hogswatchnight!

It's "spooky girls I find cute" rather than strictly Halloween.  :)

Moulin Rouge -

I liked Moulin Rouge. But I would add to this discussion CHICAGO. Now that one I HATED! One of the few movies I have ever turned off. I got to Queen Latifah in a corset singing "sexy" and couldn't take it anymore.

Oh.
I mean, as any observant Buffy fan would tell you, you'd not see Dru anywhere on Halloween either.

Personally, I've always had a weakness for Yvonne Decarlo.   Rowrrr!!!!

Tripe

Oh yes she was cute too (and when my wife was little she wanted to be "glamorous like Lilly"  :)) but there's something about Carolyn, sigh

Every female friend that I have LOVES it. They ooo and ahh over Ewan McGregor and sing along with the songs. For me the biggest travesty was the tango version of "Roxanne," I was so deeply disappointed in the Police.

That and diamond dogs were the only bits I liked.
