I'm looking at his CV on the imdb:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0611683/

Highlander's good, Razorback's okay, and I quite liked Blue Ice because it's sort of a Harry Palmer movie, but yes...the rest of those movies blow.  And The Hunger TV series...   :speechless:

Think about how much better the first Highlander could have been, though.

See, I think it's perfectly fine the way it is.  Perhaps Connery shouldn't have played a Spaniard and Christopher Lambert hardly convinces (though he's the best he'll ever be in this movie), but I think that some of the badness actually makes the film more enjoyable.  :)

My main complaint is some of the gratuitous, "alleged" humor.  The Vietnam veteran and the Vietnamese neighbors jokes were in poor taste.  Some of the production could have been better.  Of course, it's freakin' Citizen Kane next to Highlander II.

I honestly don't think that Alien vs. Predator was that bad.

No, it's not as good as Ridley Scott's or James Cameron's, but it just has that geeky fun quality about it. It's so rare when we have a crossover with some actual effort put into it, you want to appreciate it while it was there. Plus, the set designer definitely deserved some props (no pun intended).
Dammit, Maverick! Why don't you play by the rules?!

"Joel, what's a Harringway?"
"About a pound."

It's not that bad for a stupid PG-13 movie, but it doesn't retain the spirit of either Alien or Predator.

Speaking of Alien, I don't think Alien³ is all that bad (in fact, I rather liked it). It's got a dreary atmosphere to it that I just love, and dammit the Alien POV stuff was cool. For the sake of argument I'll say the Assembly Cut (I didn't mind the theatrical cut, but it's certainly not as good as it should be). Alien: Resurrection is also not that bad (not that good, but not that bad).

AVP, though (both of them) made me a very sad Raccoon.

I really hate Alien 3.  But I loved Aliens, and wanted more of that--instead, the first three minutes of Alien 3 shit all over that movie and make it retroactively suck.  Good job, assholes.

I fail to see how it made Aliens bad. Sure, it's not the most agreeable thing that could've happened (or as Cameron put it, it was a slap in the face of all the fans of the second one who invested so much emotion into it), but it still set up for an interesting story.

Every time I see a negative review of the third Alien, it always seems to boil down to "it sucks" and "they killed off so and so". First is just a general opinion, and the second doesn't seem like a good reason to me to make a movie bad.

I hear you, Relaxing Dragon. Imrahil likes his Alien movies with sparkly colors and teddy bears and in the end they all have a tea party.

He said I didn't have specifics and just said "it sucked."  So I gave him specifics.

Indeed he did. And my response is that the dark and depressing aspects are what make the movie good. It's a disturbing movie, it goes in a new direction from the previous one for something that makes you feel bad. I do happen to like some of the characters in it (Ripley does a good job, Dillon and Clemmons were interesting, and I had a thing for Golic. Felt bad for the guy, crazy as he was), and I'm not exactly sure how grimy is a fault. And it just goes at a steady pace, slow isn't necessarily a bad thing (it's all quite far cry from Aliens, this is true. That movie moved quite fast).

EDIT: Before I forget, I would also like to note that the "Just saying 'it sucks'" thing was not directed at you, I'm just saying it's something I keep seeing pop up in negative reviews of the film (and it does).

Relaxing Dragon

I can live with that.

The important thing is that, in the end, AVP still sucked :P

Just wanted to pile on because... well, just 'cause. I watched this again, this time the extended version, and I still feel the same way about it as I did when I first saw it. It's just a muddled mess and kinda boring. I love the production design, but the story just kind of meanders around before petering out in a weird suicide. On the documentary, they talked about the long preproduction and showed concept art from when the planet was supposed to be filled with monks and built from wood. I thought that sounded really cool, if utterly impractical and a death trap once an alien bled.

ScottotD

I like Alien 3 waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than Aliens, I think AvP is probably better than Aliens.

FWIW, I thought AvP blew.  Really, really, hard.  :)

Not quite as bad as the second one however, which took a potentially interesting premise, and whizzed it down its leg.

Well, since Fallout 3's been out for a while now (where I got it from) and someone else came on board with a similar pic, I thought it was time for a change.  After Mafia's over, I'll be back to good old Dick though.

Hey! I'm past the 8000 mark!
