If the viewers need a "breather" they will keep their credit cards in their wallets. I have no problem with the pace of the releases, but I also don't have a compulsion to buy them the moment they come out either.

It's fine that you are arguing for more time in between riffs, but for ever one person that agrees with you there are at least 20 people who are going to demand that those withheld Rifftrax be released.  Unless you can drum up enough support for less Rifftrax, I think your point is going to be ignored by those in power.

It'd be a different story if it was a series, then I can see how you'd need time to catch up.  But I think what they are trying to do is build a strong library to attract many different people.  Your request might be heard more in a year or so, though they've given no sign of eventually slowing down.

I think that's advice I should really heed.  I'm a bit compulsive when it comes to this (as I'd admitted in my first post), so maybe I'm the one that needs the breather.

That's actually fine by me, I don't want the Rifftrax to go anywhere!  They'll still be here when I DO get the funds/time together, so I shouldn't be in such a hurry to get them.  I also don't want Mike&Co. to burn themselves out, but I'm sure they know their limits.

Just trying to get some interesting topics of conversation going, and it appears to be working!

I suspect the reason the release schedule is so hectic right now is that they're trying to buff up the catalog.  As sold as you and I are on the concept, RiffTrax is still working to draw an audience.  The more titles they have available, and the more varied the type of movies being riffed, the more likely a casual visitor to the site is to see a movie they own, become curious, and give RiffTrax a shot.

If I were you, I'd just try to pace myself a bit on buying and watching the releases.  The time will come when Mike and Co. take a break, and you'll have plenty of time to catch up on the back catalog.

Yeah, I think I may have overestimated a little on that one.  More like $1, not the main issue, though.

If they're pumping these out so quickly, they don't necessarily have to release them rapid-fire.  If they've got a few in the bank, why not space out the releases a little and give themselves (and the viewers) a short breather?

lame does not adequately describe you  :P

Edit: wow I sure was being a dick that day sheesh, sorry (to make up for it I'll make fun of myself... Lame? what is this 1990 who uses that word anymore :)

Good call, Steve-O!  Yeah, After Dr.Moreau, I think I'll give myself a breather until the Xmas release.  I've been a little too amped about this since it was introduced...;)

Hey, join the club.

Oh, wait...  You did.  :)

Yeah I learned a long time ago that I dont have to watch them as soon as they come out...it's much better that way.

I don't feel the need to watch the Rifftrax immediately either.  I still haven't watched The Matrix, Point Break, LOTR, or Island Of Dr Moreau.  I'll watch them eventually.  I still have a sealed copy of the Legend "Night Of The Living Dead" with Mike's commentary that I haven't watched yet.  Just haven't gotten around to it yet.

I also have at least 1 or 2 MST3K episodes that I have on tape that I have never seen.  Despite having the tapes for many many years.  These are like a fine wine, one day in the future I will pull them out and enjoy a brand new (to me anyway) MST3K episode.  I have put off watching them just for that reason.

Monty, what episodes of MST are you sitting on?  I can't imagine having the patience to have these and not watch them unless they're episodes with bad reps.
TVwise, they use to do 22-24 shows in a full season, but those were under different conditions. I would guess we'll see a short break around Christmas, but there are so many riffable movies and we've suggested hundreds of titles on these boards so I don't blame Mike for keeping them coming.  With a week between the announcement and the release, that's given me enough time to find a cheap used copy of the movie online and the Friday releases give me a weekend to watch it the first time.  I suppose they'll slow down if the purchase rate slows down but I don't want to fall behind on them.

euphoria

I can see both sides of this argument.  On the one hand, it's cool that they're cranking 'em out fairly rapid-fire; who knows when this particular well will run dry (for any number of reasons), and let's get all we can before it does.  OTOH, I'm also feeling the ol' wallet crunch.  That's my fault, admittedly, because I do want to own the movies (and therefore be able to watch them whenever I want to) and the cost of DVDs does add up.  I also wonder whether the quality of the riffs will suffer for being spaced so closely together.  Seems a fair number of people have mentioned they don't like LOTR.  And I find my favorites are the early ones: Roadhouse, Star Trek, XXX.  I'm not saying there's a correlation, but there could be.

This is your answer right here.  Once again Steve-O, you hit the nail on the head.

Ah RiffTrax...the 'new' drug for the misties.
Even if you can't afford it, you'll do what it takes to get it ;)

I have them all, and I re-author them. I like to stay on top of it, because if I don't, then it will get hard to play 'catch-up'. And its easier to spend a little now on one, then allot later on several.

That's strange, because they cost the same in both instances.  4+4 is the same as 4+0+0+0+0+0+0+4.  You will have spent the same amount in each case.  I'm having trouble seeing why it's easier.  Unless it's just our fear of bigger numbers.

It's because $3/week is a lot cheaper than, say $24 for 2 months' worth all at once (assuming a Riff per week), especially for someone on a limited budget. It's why people pay for things in installments, Mr. Moneybags.  ;D
