Too much Rifftrax??? Too much of a GREAT thing???

Just throwing it out there, and I'm sure I might get flamed, but you all seem pretty level-headed here, so...

Are they releasing Rifftrax too often?

Now I realize this is a loaded question, since I'm as big a fan as any.  I own nearly everything that Mike Nelson & Co. has ever released to tape, DVD, and book.  However, in the pre-Rifftrax-post-MST3K era, Legend Films had released their "Mike" movies every other month or so (as I recall).  This was a manageable feat, and, combined with Rhino's semi-annual release of their MST3K volume sets, kept me in a healthy dose of my favourite riffer(s), and kept me in anticipation of what's to come.

With Rifftrax being released on nearly a weekly basis, though, I'm finding my pocketbook and time to be taking quite the hit.  I'm not "well off" by any means, budgeting is essential.  With each Rifftrax averaging $4CDN, and DVD's averaging $10CDN (for purchase, yes I do this the legit way), adding 1-2 hours for authoring, and $2CDN for a blank DVD and case.  Add all that to the Rhino sets, and now the Film Crew will be releasing some "classics" in the Spring (which, too, can add up with currency exchange, shipping and all that).  We've gone from small tremors to an absolute explosion, and I'm having trouble keeping up.  I know I don't have to buy them RIGHT when they're released, but I can't very well help it.  As most of you can attest to, it's a bit of a hobby in itself and I REALLY don't want to have to pick and choose the one's I want.

My point is, would it be heresy to have a Rifftrax released every other week, or should I just be thankful that they're doing this for us at all?  When I got that first Fanclub e-mail that this site was up and running, I was literally beside myself with excitement, but now I'm finding myself struggling to keep up with the onslaught of hilarity.

Let me know if I've gone completely nuts, or if this is a valid point. :-",

No i dont think your nuts. Im behind on my Rifftrax and there being a new one every week makes it hard to catch up. Personally i think it would be a good idea to do these rifftrax by season and give Mike and Kevin a break. While giving the rest of us time to catch up on there Rifftrax. Either that your give us a little more time in Between.

I personally would be surprised if the idea is to release 40+ of these in a year, but that is the pace they seem to be keeping. I really don't have an issue with the pace, I don't own them all yet and I haven't watched all the ones I do own. It doesn't really bother me, it's nice to know they are there when the time is available. They are going to release at the pace the market will bear.

If budget is that big of a deal for ya, then just rent the movie and don't author a DVD. You save probably $5-$10 right off the top on the purchase vs rental cost not to mention the time savings. Sure, it's a little less that ideal watching these without an authored DVD, but sometime you gotta bite the bullet. I did that for a few of them knowing I could always acquire a permanent copy of the movie when the budget allowed. I wasn't really interested in buying a copy of Crossroads or XXX. :)

I really think that the more there are the happier I am about life....yes thats sad.

But really I think that once every week to two weeks is not that bad. It also seems like to me that Mike and Kevin probably do about two a week so they have time to travel and such...

Also the best way to do rifftrax is netflix....

Well we know that once they start doing the Film Crew DVD. That they might not have the time to put one out every week. To me its not really a question of money as it is time. I mean i have Netfilx and Ebay. Plus I think sooner or later Mike & Kevin will just need a break. But i guess i could be wrong.

I would imagine that at some point we are going to see a Rifftrax hiatus.  Mike and the gang will all have to take their vacations at some point.

My only concern with the current pace of releases is that Mike would get burned out.  Running Rifftrax like a television series might be what they are planning on doing.  9 months a year of Rifftrax, with 3 months off (not necessarily all at once) to recharge the creative batteries.

I am sure they have a schedule that they are happy with, otherwise why do it?

I am also pretty sure they will take a break , maybe even over christmas new years.  I am happy with the pace.

You know, you don't have to buy one every week. If you feel one a month is good enough, show some self restraint and wait, and then you'll have your pick of four of them.

Also, I have yet to pay more than $6 (American, but still) for a rifftrax movie, and I've been getting most of them for like $3- you just have to keep your eye open for them used. It adds up, eventually.

And you're way overpaying for blank dvds and cases, man.

Along these lines, I don't mind the pacing of the releases, so long as the quality stays as good as it has!

I would be perfectly happy with a 2 week release schedule, but if they feel the need to release more Rifftrax, I'll keep buying them!!

Yeah I personally have not seen all of the rifftrax that are out...which stinks but the great thing is knowing there are ones for me to choose from.

Personally I think that what Mike and Co. may do is do like ten in one month then go on vacation and stagger the release of those rifftrax's.

...

Well, i feel like i'm constantly trying to play catch-up. Not a good or bad thing, really i suppose. But, i rarely get a chance to go back and watch an old Rifftrax... which is a bummer. Then again, i always have a new one to look forward to.

So, i'm torn... but they've gotta' take a break eventually, right?

I'm pretty they take long enough to write that one every three days would be completely impossible, though. Remember, Mike said it takes like six run-throughs of the movie to write it all the way, and I hope to god he's not trying to squeeze that many viewings of The Phantom Menace into a weekend.

Ok maybe ten is alittle too much but I am sure if they staggered releases correctly and Mike and co. did like five or six in one month it would give mike enough time to take a nice long vacation.

for real.

I mean it just dont buy it

or ignor the site if it bothers you.

Also, your a little to obsesive about authoring your own I'm guessing most ppl dont. Is it really that hard to play the movie/song at the same time?

Yeah, I think I may have overestimated a little on that one.  More like $1, not the main issue, though.

If they're pumping these out so quickly, they don't necessarily have to release them rapid-fire.  If they've got a few in the bank, why not space out the releases a little and give themselves (and the viewers) a short breather?
