I know this isn't friendly turf in which to be a Star Wars fan boy, but how can you not be excited about this? This is the OT and it's gonna be in 3D! How can you mess that up? What part of that would not be awesome?

The part where Lucas decides the original movie needed Darth Vader and the Stormtroopers to do a line dance. Or maybe the part where he decides that he'll just have the Deathstar crack in half instead of explode at the end of New Hope. Or how about when he decides to digitally add Boba Fett into the "Luke, I am your father" scene?

Don't you mean Digitally add Will Smith?

BOTTOM LINE: George Lucas is a SELL-OUT!!! >:(

Doctor Who?

What gets me is that Lucas is a Sell out and yet the news and half the people of the world treat him like he is the greatest artist who ever lived.

I am sick of seeing shows on tv that talk about how great he is.

He hasn't done anything good on his own since around 1980.

Ah, get over it. The changes in the special editions (With the notible exception of the Laptinek song) were all miniscule and were just barely significant enough to matter. Some cleaned up special effects and a restored scene or two. The ones that really seem to irk people though are the ones that mattered the least (Luke screaming. Greedo shooting first,) and took up such a small percentage of time in the special editions it was silly to complain about them. How many movies do you go to and say, "It was awesome except there was this one-eighth of a second that bothered me." The special editions are still 99% pure Star Wars and that's fine by me. Bring them on in 3D.

Solo shooting second is a major character change.  That was the first experience a viewer has with Solo's character.  Plus how the fuck did Greedo miss at that range.  Totally unnecessary.  ....and why does he need to step on Jabba's tail.  Lame.

Also the CGi just doesn't work with a 20 year old movie, and in the past 10 years the CGI has dated more then the 30 year old SFX.

So, if they made an edit where, say, Rick shot the Nazi at the end of Casablanca instead of Renault, or if they had Sam punch out Signor Ferrari as a fan service, that'd be okay? That'd be forgivable?

Doctor Who?

What if they used CGI to change the sleds name at the end of the movie from RoseBud to AssKicker?

Would that be ok because it was a only a few seconds of the movie?

Yeah, but Han shooting Greedo wasn't a pivotal scene either. Its value was in no way diminished by the extra laser blast. (Don't really know why they bothered to add it, for that mater) but it doesn't change the movie or the character of Han Solo in any way.

This certainly isn't the first time 3D conversions have been mentioned.

Chaos

I'm sorry, I know you love Star Wars, Pak, but I just don't buy that you honestly believe there is no character difference between shooting BACK and shooting FIRST. The whole point that that scene was trying to get cross originally was that Han was one cold son of a bitch. Now he's just some guy who defended himself... BFD. The change made him way less badass than he was supposed to be.

Now, don't get me wrong. I think the people who go apeshit over the scene are pretty stupid too. But saying it makes no difference whatsoever is just as foolish a statement as saying it ruins the movie. The change was insulting, and stupid, but it doesn't ruin the whole movie or anything.

Yeah, I actaully don't give a flying monkey about Star Wars, but I respect film. From that standpoint, what makes a film good can be subtle points. Changing a character's establishing scene, adding slapstick aspects to a character who's supposed to be menacing, and making Luke Skywalkerscream like a bitch are all pretty big things from my standpoint.

As for 3-Ding SW: I don't see a problem with it if someone can just restrain Lucas from ruining.

Yes it does.

first it mean Ham was in NO danger because Greedo couldn't hit a target one foot away!!

Second it turns Han from a a though as nail outlaw who takes no chances to someone who will only shoot if he is shot at first.  In other words it destroy Han's character arc all in the name of being more PC like the E.T walkie talkies.

Perhaps there is another way to 're-purpose' the films.  I came across this earlier today from the collective creative imaginative genius of messers Joel and John Hodgeson.  Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you: The Jolly  Filter!

It was part of a development deal with the USA Network back in the mid-90's I believe....
