So it seems the Cinematic Titanic boxset is in the slot where a new MST3K set would be.

Maybe they've hit a wall?

Hit a wall with rights or just slowing it down since there are so few left. If they can only release one or two more sets why do it all in one year?

Because of the sales momentum they've built up, maybe?  To keep from ticking off those who have - every few months - purchased these sets since the start?  Besides, what would the benefit be to the company of slowing down?  If the sets will cost them the same either way, and they will sell the same number either way, then it just reduces their immediate bottom line for sales to delay releases.

However, if there are delays in licensing, where they may need more 'finagling time' to get rights found and approved, then that is fully understandable.  But otherwise, it doesn't seem to make sense, particularly with the new season's massive approval numbers and advertising, now would be the time they could potentially sell the largest number of newly-released sets the quickest as new MSTies expand their range and discover the original series and 'go ahead on' and buy them.

At this point, I'd actually settle for single disc releases if it meant I didn't have to wait for them to play the legal game for some other movie to get my precious Quest of the Delta Knights. That's a favorite of mine, and I'd hate for it to get swept up in development hell while more challenging titles are negotiated.

On the other hand, they'd probably sell better as a set, so I can understand if they wanted to wait to clear up a full four episodes, first...

EDIT TO LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE: At least they didn't decide to release Cinematic Titanic by fours to buy more time.

So... I bought the first seven Cinematic Titanic episodes as digital downloads for $9.99 each.  Does that mean I get the full $42.95 DVD set sent to me at no additional charge and with a $26.98 refund now? ;)

[Truthfully it does seem 'off' that those who supported them before and already paid for 'personal use rights' for some (or all) of the releases are expected to be paying the same for a DVD set as people who didn't already pay for any 'personal rights use' at all.  But CDs when vinyl became nearly extinct, and newly remastered CDs, and different formats for films (VHS>laserdisc>DVD>Blu-ray>4K UltraHD) don't give any such discounts either, so it's not like there isn't a massive precedent.]

I bought every single one of their original releases, but I'm still thinking of buying the box set.

Just getting on here to add that info to the first post from the Facebook post about it.  A shame that this will be it for at least the foreseeable future. :(  Odd that the two 'likely' or 'very likely' ones aren't going to be released after all.  Must've been more complex licensing legalities than Travis Hosey found.

Good news and bad news:

QuoteThe set will be available Nov. 21, 2017, and available for pre-order on the Shout! Factory website and Amazon later this week. We hope you'll share this update with your readers.

It will be a four-disc set, here are the titles:

    The Amazing Transparent Man
    Girls Town
    Diabolik
    "Satellite Dishes"

The 4th disc, called "Satellite Dishes" is a collection of the host segments from episodes from the remaining unreleased episodes. They are:

    Ep #201 Rocketship X-M
    Ep #212 Godzilla Vs. Megalon
Ep #213 Godzilla Vs. The Sea Monster
Ep #309 The Amazing Colossal Man
Ep #311 It Conquered the World
Ep #416 Fire Maidens from Outer Space
    Ep #418 The Eye Creatures
Ep #807 Terror from the Year 5000
    Ep #809 I Was A Teenage Werewolf
    Ep #905 The Deadly Bees
    Ep #906 The Space Children
Ep #913 Quest of the Delta Knights

Despite our best efforts to include the remaining unreleased episodes, due to licensing issues, it is very likely that Volume 39 will be the last collection of never-before-released episodes, and that these remaining episodes may never get a legitimate release. With this in mind, we decided the next best option was to release the remaining host segments by themselves.

While it is a shame - who would have ever believed we'd have the series THIS close to complete one day? Amazing.

Very true.  To get official versions of 165 of the 176 original episodes?  Just astonishing, knowing that they were pulled from reruns on TV as the licensing expired for each (at least in the Sci-Fi era).

Just noticed, after editing the first post in this, that this thread was started exactly two years and one day ago.  Not meaningful, just interesting that the date of the 'final notice' came so close to an anniversary date for this list originating.

I'm just glad they were kind enough to officially announce that this is (probably) it. Now I feel OK about going to more "tape-circulated" methods of getting the remaining 11.

RVR II

I could proly help out with those 11 episodes (kindasortamaybe) 8)

Iron Curtain

What about when The Final Sacrifice goes out of Print? Shout! lost the rights to that one!

There are few Shouts that are OOP now... Gamera is a big one.

Shout is still plowing through rereleasing the Rhino sets, it looks like.  Vol. 6, the latest, is due out in October.  Once they're through 7-12, they may have sorted out the issues with 'Soultaker' (the reason 14 is out of print) and 'The Final Sacrifice' (17).  If they can't, they may replace it with one of the floating singles that are OOP.  (Or they could just rerelease those sets as three-disc sets, or 4-and-a-whatever sets, and collect those singles into vol. 40.)

It looks like Amazon still has Final Sacrifice available for streaming, as does Shout Factory TV.  And while Amazon doesn't have new sets of 17 anymore, it looks like some of their third party vendors still do.

From what I understand, getting a Gamera set release was kind of a miracle of timing with the rights, and it's unlikely those stars will re-align soon.

MST3K Set XXXIX has been made available for pre-oder from SHOUT! Factory.  [Updated first post to reflect this and this set's bonus disc.]

According to SHOUT!, the first 1500 people ordering will also receive a bonus disc of the entire 'Poopie!' collection.  But didn't they release it all already as parts 1 and part 2 on earlier discs?  Where's the unique stuff?  Particularly with the two 'Making of' episodes still outstanding?
