My fear is the next set might be 1 or 2 old episodes plus 2 or 3 season 11 episodes, in which case I'll already have the new episodes via the season 11 kickststarter campaign. If they go that route I'm hoping they have an option for individual disks of the old episodes.
Don't expect it, but I'd be happy with a reduced priced 2 or 3 disk set or a set that includes a KTMA episode or two.

Wouldn't mind if they threw a couple of Rhino's single disc releases onto a set. Back when they released those, I was all, "Why double dip? I have those on VHS! A format I'll surely still be using readily in 10 years!"

Speaking of old formats...kind of a shame that they can't release them on Blu-ray.  Still in SD (no need to go nuts), but with less compression, and all four episodes able to fit on one disc.  Make shelf space a lot easier to deal with...

What's the point of releasing them on Blu-Ray if the episodes were originally shot in SD? Upscaling from 480p to 1080p is a fruitless endeavor. It's better to just put HD-shot episodes on Blu-Ray and DVD and just-SD-shot episodes on DVD rather than try to up-convert an inferior standard.

Without going into too much, the thing is, you could still put SD episodes on Blu without upconverting...the compression would be reduced, and you could fit more episodes per disc (you probably fit a whole SD boxset onto one disc without sacrifices, possibly more), so you would gain slightly better picture quality without making it HD, while getting some shelf space back.  I'm just thinking about how the Angry Video Game Nerd didn't upcovert his old videos, but still released a Blu with something like 90 of his old SD shows on it.  Sure, they were 5-10 minutes long, but I'm thinking Blu more for convenience than anything else.

Actually, if you wanted to get weirdly fancy for no good reason, 4K might be actually a better road.  Again, not for picture quality, but for two other reasons...one, the amount you could stick on there (you could probably fit an entire SEASON of SD shows on one disc), but for another, it would get rid of another problem...the interlacing.  It's actually fairly simple (I've done it at home) to convert old 60i video to 60p without any noticeable artifacts, and since 60fps is a potential standard for 4K, you could watch old MSTs on the big screen, in their original 'video' look, without the combing that comes from progressive video sources.  Compare watching a streaming episode on Netflix with the ones from a disc and you'll see what I'm getting at.

Again, yeah, you're not going to squeeze blood from the NTSC turnip and all picture-wise, but having the show take up less space in the house would be a really nice bonus.  But back on track...they need to announce the next set, dang it. ;)

Since the bottom has dropped out of physical media we may see an increase of space saving features like this in the future. Back when physical media was king the media companies were hesitant to make it look like you were getting less for your $$$.  Generally speaking the MSRPs is what they want/need to make a profit and even if it was 1 disc vs 4 they would still need that original MSRP and most consumers wouldn't pay that for 1 disc.

That plan only works if the subset of people that buy MST3K products have upgraded to HD media players.

Given that MST3K the Movie was put out on blu ray, they may well even have an idea of what the numbers are.

Thanks for explaining in spite of my extremely dickish reply. Speaking of which, I apologize for my extremely dickish reply.

Still no new set announced? I'd have thought now, with MST3K in the news, it would have been a good time to announce a new set...

Well, it certainly should be soon.  It appears that mid-April has been when the Spring sets have gone up for pre-order in the past (based on the pre-order e-mail receipts I have, when I've always ordered as soon as I learned they were available for pre-order).  But it does appear to have ranged from an early of the 6th of the month (last year) to the 28th (in 2013).

Aren't the usually announced around a week after the previous set comes out?

That's quite possible.  I just had the e-receipts to check for dates.  Hopefully these last couple won't have long delays from rights acquisition or something.  And if they do, hopefully someone from SHOUT! will say, "it'll be a bit: hold on, there is something still coming."

So it seems the Cinematic Titanic boxset is in the slot where a new MST3K set would be.

Maybe they've hit a wall?

Hit a wall with rights or just slowing it down since there are so few left. If they can only release one or two more sets why do it all in one year?
