Is there a reason Joel's cameo was completely silent? And who was the guy with him in that bit? He looked familiar.

I thought Joel's silence was a big part of what made that bit funny. Might be an in joke or something, or maybe he just realized it was funnier that way?

Joel was playing the character of "Larry" from the movie. He didn't talk, was just all smiley and creepy during the Orange growing scene.

Didn't he have a little beard? I thought he was supposed to be the Prof.

Joel probably just didn't want to shave for the bit.  The makeup, hair, jumpsuit were definitely the "Larry" guy in the movie.

Re-watched this episode today and while I missed it the first time, Joel was definitely playing Larry the silent guy in the orange growing scene. He was called Larry and was wearing a similar jumpsuit.

Wow, would have been funnier if I'd made the connection.

Has anyone seen the unriffed version? Completely different ending. Saw this film many times as a kid. I won't ruin it for anyone who wants to check it out but it's fun. I was looking forward to seeing how they would riff it as it goes, well, really fast.

I thought there was something missing from the ending, I probably haven't seen this since the 70s on TV so I wasn't sure...

It took me about an hour into it to realize the younger scientist guy was the same guy who played Asa Buchanon on One Life to Live for many, many years.

This season had 6 movies (including this one) that I had previously seen. 4 of them I had only seen as a kid, so I didn't remember a lot of details about those 4.

Why does Gypsy bring that basket down and up every episode? I must have missed the explanation.

SJP

Most think it's a routine maintenance thing (at least, as far into the show as I have seen, unless it gets really explained later on), but it appears to be mostly an excuse for Gypsy to get in on the fun and then wander off.

It really reminds me of old Monty Python with the people who would pop in and say, "This is my only line."
One Man Band Riffs.  18 riffs, over 600 served, since 2009.

Pak-Man

Joel called it "The Payload." I don't know yet if it's explained by the end of the season or if that's left to be explored in future seasons.

It's the 'mystery' in MST3K.

I think Ib Melchior might be one of my new favorite B-Movie directors. That bit with the screen flickering at the beginning was actually kind of clever.

Yeah, this movie is cheesy, but I appreciate trying to use interesting magic tricks for children's parties-- er, I mean, special effects.  They aren't astounding, but they did take creativity and added a sense of fun.  In fact, I feel like he might be a kindred spirit with Joel.
