Terrorists take over a Vermont ski slope and Sean Astin is the only man who can stop them in this Die Hard on Skis that forgot what made Die Hard good.

With Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett

It's obvious what the makers of Icebreaker were going for: Die Hard on Skis. Unfortunately, they weren't even able to make A Good Day to Die Hard* on Skis. We think they should have gone with making Speed 2: Cruise Control, aka Die Hard on a Boat on Skis. We heard the boat was available.

Terrorists have taken over a Vermont ski slope! Why? Who knows! Their motives are extremely unclear. Perhaps they were frustrated by the state's lack of east to west interstates. Or maybe they were angered by Vermonters' inexplicable preference of Heady Topper over the superior Focal Banger.*** The point is, Sean Astin is the only man who can stop them. Why? We actually know the answer to this one: because that's how the Die Hard on a ____ format works, dammit!

Standing in Sean's way is B-movie god Bruce Campbell, who evidently really wanted an all expenses paid ski vacation. And when we say "Standing in Sean's way" we mean it quite figuratively. We are not entirely convinced these two ever actually were on set at the same time. The two trade quips at a bunny slope level that culminates in the most thrilling series of snowboard stunts we've seen ever since we tried to play a downloaded ROM of 1080 on a stuttery N64 emulator.

Written and directed by David Giancola (Time Chasers) and featuring a memorable performance by Asahi T-shirt Guy from Radical Jack, Icebreaker is one film that will make you say Yippee Ki Yay, Mr. Gamgee!****

*It's technically the fifth** Die Hard movie.

**We know, we prefer to pretend it doesn't exist either. Besides, how can there be a fifth Die Hard movie when we're also pretending the fourth one doesn't exist?)

***Please forgive us, one of our writers moved to Vermont four months ago and these are the only two facts about his new home he has learned in that time.

****I refuse to apologize. What are you going to do, come find me?? I'm in Vermont!!

"Rutland's packing more than just snow"? Ummmm...

oh, guns...you mean guns....phew!

Compared to this turd of a movie, "Time Chasers" and "Radical Jack" were Oscar-worthy classics. Absolutely nothing about it made sense.

Edgewood Studios really picked the wrong movie to blow tons of money paying for well-known actors. Imagine "Time Chasers" with these actors: Stacy Keach as J. K. Robertson, Bruce Campbell as Nick, and Sean Astin as pink boy. I can see it.

I don't know. I think Edgewood Studio probably worse in store for us.

The Deputy that becomes the Sheriff in Radical Jack is the Park Ranger that Matt partners up with. So it's not just the Asahi guy that gets to feature in both of these epic films.

Well the studio probably reuses a lot of people across their films.

Campbell I can kind-of see, but how did the movie makers score Sean Astin and Stacey Keach?! Particularly Keach.  I mean, doing some crummy DTV movie that's a terrible Die Hard wannabe (I might go more with Die Hard 2, stronger parallels there,) made by a nobody director in Vermont seems like a desperate project to take.  Did they need to do *something* to keep their SAG benefits?  Did someone have compromising photos of them?  This was likely filmed in 1999, so were they worried about the Y2K Bug ending the world so they said, "Fuck it, what do I have to lose?"

Take a look at what Sean Austin was doing pre-LotR. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000276/?ref_=tt_cl_t1
FINE

Yeah, yeah, not a whole lot. But, still, he was something of a "name" to one degree or another. (I mean, how else would he have gotten LOTR?) So doing some DTV movie made by a small-time Vermontian filmmaker?

He got it by auditioning and looking hobbitty, I assume? Most of them weren't really names yet.

Actually this isn't only Edgewood Studio movie to Star Stacey Keach. He was in "Lightning Fire in the Sky" and "Frozen Impact". I mean maybe he just needed the work. As for Sean Astin i think work dried up for him for a while. But i don't think he was a total unknown. Rudy was pretty big movie for him in 1993 and to mention the Goonies.
