Okay don't hang me by my ankles and smack my head with a pick axe for saying this, but as a younger version of myself, I /actually/ really enjoyed the Power Rangers movie haha!

My girlfriend's 16-year-old brother has no idea what Transformers are or who Optimus Prime is. Boy did that make me feel old.

Its going to make money because its something that hasn't been seen before, at least in live action film.  When was the last time you saw a movie about giant transforming robots?  If the effects are as awesome as promised people will watch it regardless.

Power Rangers.

Way to cite the one kids' franchise that easily makes the Transformers look like Shakespeare.

Natureboy

I wouldn't get too excited about this film, it is directed by Michael Bay

Sideswipe

Well, I have to say, Michael Bay knows action.  I liked the Rock and Bad Boys 2.  So his track record is not all bad, at least in my opinion.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

Hmm..Point. However, Transformers boasts some qualities Power Rangers never had. For instance, just about everyone in our age bracket knows who Optimus Prime is. He's reached cultural icon status. I don't think the same can be said for any character in Power Rangers. To see a live action Prime in...well...action...is going to be a pretty sacred moment for a bunch of us.

Lies!  I mean, I'd be all for seeing a live action optimus prime.  But this is going to be an animated optimus prime surrounded by live action people.  CGI is still a form of animation.

But I don't disagree that this will probably be better than power rangers.  Well, it better be.

Nah. We'll just give you a wedgie.  ;)

I gave Power Rangers a chance. I really did. I even bought the Black Ranger toy (which I still have somewhere in my toy collection). All the advertisements made it look really, really awesome. And then I actually watched at episode.  It felt like watching someone beat a puppy to death. So I tried another episode, hoping that perhaps that was just one bad episode I saw. The second one was just as bad. I gave up after that.

TFs might be dumb, sometimes, but at least it's got 80's camp working in its favor.

Well, I meant more live action than the first TFs movie, at any rate.

And I suspect that watching someone having a root canal done is probably more entertaining in a good way than the Power Rangers movie.

Quoted for truth.

New official images here. Hey, that actually looks a little like the Jazz I know and love! And Megatron has... a nose?

Well, the first time would probably be Jet Jaguar in that crummy Godzilla film whose name I cant be bothered looking up.  Then the next time it was probably the 80's sci-fi flick Robot Jox, with giant fighting robots slugging it out for world domination instead of armies.  The had some transformers aspects and some even flew into space, firing rocket-powered fists at each other.  Crap, but giant (patially) transforming robots none the less.  Robot Jox would make a great MST3K movie.

Godzilla Vs Megalon? I don't remember Jet Jaguar transfomring. Or does he appear in other Godzilla movies? They all blur together for me.

Anyway, the question should be "When was the last time you saw a movie about giant transforming robots that didn't look like it was made by 12-year-olds?"

You can't expect a movie about giant robots transforming into cars to be great as in oscar-type great. I mean it's an action movie. It's bound to have its stupid moments but I am quite content to just simply enjoying the movie even if it doesn't have much story or plot. Most movies these days haven't had much plot or story anyways so it's probably not going to be much different. I know this, I will enjoy Transformers. It is a dear sweet lovely reminder of my childhood when things were so simple and fun. When It is over I will clap and clap and clap and I will tell everybody what a great movie I thought it was.

Junkyard

I'm going to the movie for the express purpose of turning my brain off for a couple hours and enjoying myself.
If the movie can avoid taking itself too seriously, this should be good fun.

Cosmic Muse

You know, I'm not wholly certain I really want to see this movie. How can I be sure what I've seen so far from the movie aren't the best parts and that in between the action are long stretches of tedium like in GINO (Godzilla In Name Only)?
Being a genocidal maniac is not one of my turn ons.

Is it weird to hear the Safety Dance in my head watching Game of Thrones?

Tripe

I think of it as the Dorito Monster since that's all it seems good for; advertising yellow corn chips.
