Here in Aus it is really hard to watch a lot of the stuff Criterion releases before buying, especially legally.

I've bought 89 Criterion Blu Rays and almost all of them were blind buys. Maybe 5 we didn't like or wouldn't watch again. Pretty goos odds, when a significant portion of the others have become all time favourite films!

True, but again, it all comes down to me being so picky with what I own. It's not that I need to like a movie, I need to like it enough (and feel a certain way watching it) that I'd actually have good reason to pull it out and watch it on at least a theoretically regular basis, or otherwise have some good need to have it right there right then instead of waiting for a rental to arrive. I get tough on that criteria, because I'm still coming down from the days of buying everything I remotely liked and ending up with an overstuffed shelf gathering dust (even putting Seven Samurai on my list is big for me, because I've been saying no to that buy for a while now on the basis that I never have time for a three-and-a-half hour movie these days).

So, all of the above taken in, I'm the sort who has to has to has to rent/otherwise watch a movie first before buying it.

Luckily I just found out that Judex is on Amazon Instant, so I'm going to give a go there soon. Also, I did go out and buy Charade today, which feels good.

Really freaken good deal on nice headphones, Philips SHP9500 Headphones, for $60 instead of the usual $160. 32ohm impedance so you wouldn't need an amp or anything to drive them. I would buy them this second if I hadn't payed quadruple that for a baller ass pair of AKGs last month.

If you're interested you should move quick because it's on Massdrop and and they're moving real quick.

If it had a mic, Id seriously consider it.  I need a new mic.

Use one of those $5 Zalman clip on mics. My friends tell me I sound clearer with that than 90% of the cheap garbage mics they attach to cheap garbage headphones and then sell as premium gaming headsets.

A separate mic and headset?  How tedious.

Clipping a plastic mic to a headphone cable one time is hardly tedious.

I'm skipping it this year as we are spending $400 on movie festival tickets this month :P

I likely will too, actually. But more because, following my recent acquisition of All That Jazz (just before the sale, because of course), I think I currently own every Criterion I actually want to own. Now I just sit back and play the waiting game for The Grand Budapest Hotel's inevitable release...

For folks who have access to the Microsoft store that's bundled with Win 8/10 and Xboxes, Microsoft is offering a number of MP3 albums, video games and movie rentals for $.10 each for the weekend. If you don't have, say, Lorde's album, this is a good chance to pick it up. And for movies, I'd say Mad Max or Jurassic World are worth a dime to rent. Pixels is up there too, and to paraphrase "Thumbellina", no a dime is actually a reasonable price for it.
