I was one of the teenagers that discovered MST3K on the Comedy Channel many, many moons ago...and lerrrrrved it.  I have to be honest that as college and life began MST3K and I got to see less and less of each other over time. I still thought of her (MST3K is a her, she just is) fondly but it wasn't the same.

Then some months back I heard about RiffTrax and took it upon myself to have my first experience be the live in theatre Sharknado 2.  I was nervous, what if it wasn't as funny as I recalled MST3K being?  What if the time and distance had changed us both?  After all she had changed her name?  Well, I'm happy to say that like a bolt from the blue I fell in love all over again.

What a fantastic show!!!  Now I want to dig into more and I kind of want to do it chronologically based on when RiffTrax released them.  (so weird, i know)  I see that Wikipedia seems to have a pretty comprehensive list.  So I guess I'll start there.

It looks like Reefer Madness was their first film....and now I see they've done it 3 times.  Of the three which one is best? Mike solo, all three guys or live?

Well if you are a stickler for chronological order you have to watch the Mike solo one first.

I was bieng threated with death by wolf raping before it was cool!.

Welcome to the forum.  I guess I like the live one best.  I like all the live shows.

It's amazing how long it took some of us to learn about Rifftrax.  I was a MST fan back in 1989. I had no idea about Rifftrax until about 2 years ago.

The good thing about only recently learning of Rifftrax is, you have a lot of fresh Rifftrax to watch!

I like all of the Reefer Madness riffs, reefs... the Remake of Reefer Madness is something to behold. It's called Reefer Madness the Movie Musical. It's awesome.

HI!

If you want to go strictly chronologically, first, the B-movies prior to Roadhouse don't really count.  They can be funny, but they're technically just commentary tracks Mike recorded for Legend prior to Rifftrax launching.  The first OFFICIAL RiffTrax is Roadhouse.  Though it's still Mike solo, it's VERY funny.  The first track with Kevin with Star Trek V; with Bill, it's X-Men; with all three, it's Daredevil.

Having said that, chronological order is fun, but hardly necessary.  Just watch movies that look interesting to you.  Obviously it's easier if you just pick the VODs because you don't have to sync anything.

Though to answer your actual question, Reefer Madness Live is the best.

While I do enjoy them, the pre-RiffTrax commentary tracks Mike did for Legend (Night of the Living Dead, Reefer Madness, Carnival of Souls, Swing Parade, House on Haunted Hill) were more of a parody of commentary tracks and not fully realized Riffs.   I say start with the first RiffTrax Road House.

it's been a LONG time since I listened to that one, but it was amazing. I watch Over the top with the riff pretty often though.
