WHAAAA?! but ...but ...but surely whenever there's a remake or adaptation the studio sneaks into your house, replaces your copy of the original and then performs an operation on you removing all your memories of it!  Otherwise people complaining about them would just be ridiculous children wouldn't they?!

Not necessarily, but you are judging a movie based on only the barest minimum of information.

So are all the people who are super happy about it, aren't they?

Some people are excited about the idea of a new Ghostbusters movie. Some people are excited about a new comedy lead by funny women. Some people are excited about the combination of those two things. All of that makes sense.

The idea of being upset about a movie that you don't have to see is silly.

So you really don't understand what I'm talking about? Or are you just being difficult?

I don't at all understand how you could have a problem with a reboot rebooting something that laid dormant for more than 25 years, no. And, since neither of us has seen it yet, we actually have no idea if they do in fact reference the first film at all, if they will act like the first films were 'not good or embarrassing,' or what shape the reboot will have.

This hasn't stopped you from getting Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and Hudsen in a new Ghostbusters. Time and Ghostbusters 2 did that.

Now, you have a chance at maybe a great new film in the vein of the thing you love. And if you're not interested in that, you have the same amount of Ghostbusters you had before this happened.

You're mad at something you don't have to see, that isn't taking anything away from you. And - if you give it a chance - you might even like it.

Taking a samurai movie and remaking it as a western when westerns were massively popular, you could probably argue that.

Don't forget the greedy hacks that ruined The Wizard of Oz, The Departed, A Fistfull of Dollars, Scarface, The Fly and The Maltese Falcon.

Now you are pulling a Just_The_Trax.  I never said anything about remakes always ruining them, even though a lot of modern remakes suck ass.

Also, just out of curiosity, how many of those original movies came even close to the popularity that Ghostbusters has?

They were all incredibly popular, that's why I used them to make fun of your dumb argument

Pretty sure The Wizard of Oz has been seen by more people than Ghostbusters ten times over...

I believe he's referring to a 1925 silent film that came before. Had to google that one myself.
