Interesting.  Opinions on Star Trek the Motion Picture vary, and its completely understandable if someone thinks its boring but I think we can all agree Jerry Goldsmith was a genius.  Horners score for WoK just doesnt hold up to the Motion Picture.

See, I strongly disagree with you. Jerry Goldsmith's score was beautiful, had some great themes, but TWOK had this great, wonderful and even broader score. It was described many times as "nautical but nice". It managed to convey many, many different themes reflected by the events of the movie, whether it's menace, an exciting space battle, tremendous loss, or hope. it just has so many great swells that really move you emotionally. Again, TMP does that too to some extent but the TWOK score is even more well-developed with lots and lots of themes and extremely beautiful sections.
