I get what you're saying, especially about that particular "personality type"... makes sense. In terms of a movie villain, it still doesn't work for me though. Maybe it's just that i thought Kurt Russell's performance during that scene was too over-the-top or something. I don't know... it's just my opinion. I can tell ya' that i'll never hang my leg out a car window again, though!~

Anyway, when it comes to this particular film the only real problem i had was that Stuntman Mike acts completely out of character at the end of the film. I mean...

See, I disagree. I though that bit was absolutely perfect. If you read a bit about that kind of personality, the notion that seems completely in character. And remember, this is a female revenge fantasy; the idea of doesn't really play into that fantasy.

I read yesterday that since the Grindhouse tanked at the box office the Weinstein Company has decided to rip off the movie's fans on the DVD releases.

Grindhouse will be released as 2 separate DVD's, and neither DVD will contain the fake trailers trailers.  Tarantino's movie (Death Proof)  will have the 'missing reel' added in along with another deleted scene. Not sure about the extra features on Planet Terror.   The extra footage is appreciated but this seems like an obvious money grab.

The trailers were one of my favorite parts and keeping them off the DVD's seems like an obvious set up in a year or two for some sort of 'ultimate edition' that will include said trailers.   They must know they're bumming out tons of people by not including the trailers on either release.   As much as i enjoyed Grindhouse, at this point I'm probably not going to buy these when they come out.  I'll wait for the inevitable special edition.

I was planning on blind buying Grindhouse when it came out (I didn't see it in theaters), but I think I'll just rent the two individual discs, then wait to buy the "ultimate edition" like you.

Same here... i still haven't bought either Kill Bill DVD. Because i know that eventually they'll be released together on some ultimate collector's edition. Did the same with Sin City, and a coupla' other movies. The problem lies with the amount of people who buy any and everything as soon as it's released, yet still like to bitch about "double-dipping" as they buy each new edition.

Even before the theatrical release they said that they would be released seperatley. It does suck if they don't have the fake trailers on either disc. I am sure somewhere down the line they will release the theatrical version. It would be nice to see all those film scratches in high-def though.

In both of those cases it was widely known that there would be double-dips.  I don't mind that at all. Tell me now that there is going to be a better/bigger release down the road. Don't just spring it on us. Also if you didn't know Rude the 4 disc Kill Bill comes out in November.

I waited on Kill Bill and Sin City too.  Another one was Spider-man 2.  I had heard they were going to release a cut with some additional footage so I never bought the original release.  It came out this year right before Spider-man 3 hit theaters.  Another movie I'm holding off on is The Fountain.  I enjoyed it but the DVD release had no extras at all.

The thing is, I would have gladly bought both movies separately if the trailers were included with one of them.

I've double dipped on DVD's more times than I can count.  Must be at least 30 movies.  Once I got my Netflix (all hail Netflix) subscription I was able to be more careful with my purchases and not give into the urge.

OT: One thing that I am planning to double dip on is the new Blade Runner Ultimate Collectors Edition.

IT COMES IN A BRIEFCASE!!!! HOW COOL IS THAT?

Edgar Wright says:
Quote"They're releasing the films separately and then there will be a "Grindhouse Edition" later and that's what the trailers will appear on. I was sad that they won't get shown in other territories in the world, so that's a bit of a shame, but that's what's going to happen."

Here's the individual specs too:
http://dvd.ign.com/articles/808/808506p1.html

Death Proof:
    * Finding Quentin's Gals
    * The Guys of Death Proof
    * Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike
    * Introducing Zoe Bell
    * Quentin's Greatest Collaborator: Editor Sally Menke
    * Double Dare trailer
    * International Poster Gallery

Planet Terror:
    * Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Robert Rodriguez
    * International trailer
    * Deleted Scenes
    * Cooking School
    * 10-Minute Film School
    * The Stunts
    * The Make-up and Effects
    * The Badass Babes
    * The Renegade Guys
    * The Costumes
    * The Production Design

Both will be extended with "missing reel" footage

That stinks that the trailers won't be in the initial DVD releases.  Edgar Wright's "Don't" trailer is one of the most brilliant things I've seen in theaters all year.

This really bites!  I want the fake trailers and the whole Grindhouse experience, but I'd also like to see the full extended versions of both films.

I guess if you had to pick one film to do the double buy for it would be this.  (I never did buy either Kill Bill on DVD, still waiting for the Complete Ultimate Version)

pyro

All this means for me is I'll rent them both the week before they come out and then wait to actually buy them till they release the Grindhouse edition, so, I'm happy  ;D

There's also the possibility that the Grindhouse Edition could include the extended cuts  of both films.   Some kind of 3 disc set, with the two separate cuts and the theatrical release on the 3rd disc.

Personally I don't care if they release the exact theatrical edition at all,  though I think the films themselves work better with the "missing" reels.

To me watching a purposely scratched and degraded film with frame burns on a LCD HDTV would be silly and it wouldn't be the same experience as seeing it in the theater at all.

I would laugh if someone ordered that, but ended up getting the Harrison Ford collectible briefcase from Firewall instead.
