looks pretty cool. kinda wish i had something like that when i was little. or littler.  although i think i might buy it anyways.  any thoughts?

Axeman

It's the ideal book for reading in the toilet, since it's full of little snippets of info spread over a few pages that grab your interest.  You can flick through it and just pick out something that takes your fancy, then later just go to another section and indulge.  It's full of stuff you wish you knew or learned when you were a kid, like Morse Code, special knots, how to build a very stable treehouse, codes, historical battles, etc, etc.  It might well serve as an excellent handbook for a father of young boys, since he can appear knowledgable and show them how to build treehouses, etc.

which is one of the reasons i will probably buy it.

I'm not even a boy and that looks awesome.

It also looks like something that I'd slap on a teacher's desk in a beautific manner if Pak and I had a son and if said son got into trouble at school for any number of things involving rocks, spit, and small animals.  ;D

All I can say to that author is... OINK OINK OINK SQUEAL SQUEAL!!!  ;)

Seriously, its good that something like this has resurrected itself.  Kids need to get off WOW and get their butts up a tree house for once again.

i think its funny they think its sexist somehow.  Good on the authors for sticking to their guns on that issue

I just picked up 2 copies for my nephews...and they're 2 and 3 years old.  But when they turn 10, BAM, present from scary Uncle Mark.

I'm absolutely going to get this book--no hurry though, since my son's only two.

I love this quote from one of the authors:

"I think we've come through the period when we said boys and girls were exactly the same, because they're not. Boys and girls have different interests, different ways of learning, and there's no real problem in writing a book that plays to that, and says, let's celebrate it. Let's go for a book that will appeal to boys."

Seriously, aren't we past trying to claim that boys and girls are inherently the same (and any differences are a result of social conditioning) yet? I say let boys be boys, which is one reason I think this book looks awesome. But I also like the idea of getting boys away from the screen (computer and TV), teaching them some interesting skills, promoting creativity, etc.
That shocks my full military wear!
