DeAngelo Williams: I've been released by the Carolina Panthers

After nine seasons, Carolina Panthers' running back DeAngleo Williams says he's been released by the Carolina Panthers.

Williams told WBTV exclusively that he was cut by the team last week during a meeting with Panthers head coach Ron Rivera and General Manager Dave Gettleman.

"We sat down and he told me 'The fact of the matter is we're going to have to release you'," Williams told Molly Grantham during a sit down conversation. "I said you know, 'Why?' and he said, 'because we don't run the ball enough. Just like you said back before the season started, we don't run the ball enough to keep you and both [Jonathan Stewart], so we're going to release you'."

Williams said the entire conversation lasted around ten minutes and was the last he's heard from the team.

"I don't feel bitter at all. [Stewart] had the hot hand at the end of the season. He's a great running back, obviously, uh, I don't feel bitter at all. It's a business," Williams said. "And that business comes back and reminds us year after year - whether it be Steve Smith, whether it be Jordan Gross, whether it be myself - it's going to happen to every guy in that locker room, so it doesn't bother me at all."

Williams has been with the team since he was drafted by the Panthers as the 27th overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft.

During his nine-year career, Williams has been plagued with ankle injuries. He injured his right ankle during the 2006 season and sprained his ankle in the 2009 season and was inactive for three games. In 2010, he was placed on the team's injured reserve list for an injury to his right foot.

In 2014, Williams was hit by several injuries, including a thigh injury, an injured ankle and broke his hand during the Minnesota game.

Williams ranked as the Panthers' all-time leader with 1,432 rushing attempts, 6,846 rushing yards, 46 rushing touchdowns and 18 games with 100 or more rushing yards.

Adrian Peterson headed to the NFC East?

24/7 Sports

If Adrian Peterson is indeed done with the Minnesota Vikings, where will the talented running back land? The NFC East could be the future for Peterson.

Jason La Canfora writes that sources have said that Peterson has no intention of suiting up for the Vikings again. This comes after a reported heated exchange between Peterson's agent a member of the Vikings front office, who had to be separated, last week in downtown Indianapolis during the NFL Scouting Combine according to La Canfora.

"Peterson, who is signed through 2017 and set to make $13 million in 2015, has no intention of playing again for the Vikings, sources said," wrote La Canfora. "Peterson, sources said, lost faith and trust in the franchise after a tumultuous ordeal over his child abuse charges that resulted in him missing nearly the entire season on the Commissioner's Exempt List while his legal situation played out."

If Minnesota isn't in the plan for Peterson, La Canfora pointed out the Dallas Cowboys as a potential landing spot.

He also mentioned the Washington Redskins as a dark-horse suitor for the 29-year old former Pro Bowler.

"Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and Peterson have mutual admiration, and Peterson makes his home in Texas. Further, the Cowboys have been linked with the running back in NFL circles for quite some time, though sources said a coupling of the two would hardly be a slam dunk. One source suggested the Washington Redskins as a dark-horse potential suitor for him."

QuoteBills, Rams dispute talk of Sam Bradford trade

NBC Sports
February 24, 2015, 3:39 PM EST

Plenty of rumors are floating around in the aftermath of the Scouting Combine.  And plenty of those rumors are being disputed by the parties involved.

In response to a report that the Bills are trying to trade for Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, a pair of reports from each team's perspective shoots down the notion of the first overall pick in the 2010 draft being shipped from St. Louis to Buffalo.

Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News reports that the Bills aren't attempting to trade for Bradford.  Mike Rodak of ESPN.com says the Rams have told him there's no merit to the report.

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the Rams are bracing for an offseason of endless rumor and speculation about Bradford's future, with some in the organization believing it will be even worse than it was a year ago.

Last week, Rams coach Jeff Fisher made clear his position that Bradford is the starter, disputing a report that Bradford has received permission to seek a trade.  The Rams have committed to Bradford for good reason.  As the source said, subtracting Sam Bradford from the roster will only make the team's quagmire worse.

Bradford has torn the same ACL each of the past two years, and he's still rehabbing the new graft. Fisher said last week he hopes to re-sign Shaun Hill.  Austin Davis is eligible for restricted free agency.

Looks like the Bills are going after McCown..
QuoteReports: Bills talking deal with Josh McCown

February 26, 2015, 2:19 PM EST
AP

The Bills are reportedly trying to add Josh McCown to their quarterback ranks.

The Associated Press reports Buffalo is trying to work out a contract with the 35-year-old McCown, who's regarded as one of the top passers available in free agency.

According to Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News, a Bills agreement with McCown could occur Friday, an unnamed NFL source told the newspaper.

McCown started 11 games for the Buccaneers in 2014, completing 184-of-327 passes for 2,206 yards with 11 touchdown passes. However, he committed 18 turnovers. The Buccaneers released him on February 11.

McCown visited the Bills not long after being cut by Tampa Bay. He visited the Browns on Wednesday and Thursday but did not strike a deal with Cleveland.
I'm not set on him.. Is there noone else to choose from ???

Bills acquire QB Cassel in trade with Vikings

FOX Sports
MAR 04, 2015 12:51p ET

Matt Cassel will play for his fourth team in eight seasons.

The Buffalo Bills aren't waiting for free agency to bolster their roster.

General manager Doug Whaley sent a package of picks to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for quarterback Matt Cassel on Wednesday. While the trade can't become official until next Tuesday, when the new league year begins, both teams announced it.

The Bills will swap their first fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft for the Vikings' 2015 sixth-rounder and also give Minnesota a 2016 seventh-rounder to acquire the rights for Cassel, FOX Sports 1's NFL insider Alex Marvez reported.

Cassel, who signed a two-year deal with the Vikings last year, will compete with third-year quarterback E.J. Manuel to be the starter. Cassel began last season as the starter in Minnesota, but sustained a season-ending injury in Week 3.

The bold move comes a day after Buffalo acquired running back LeSean McCoy in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Cassel brings a wealth of experience to the quarterback room, starting in 90 games over an 11-year career.
I like Matt Cassel much more than Josh McCown.

Apparently LeSean McCoy has been traded to the Bills.  And the Eagles get a lineman in return.

WTF?  I just don't understand this at all.  Why trade one of our best players, just to get some room under the salary cap?

Edit:  OK, reading some more I guess Alonso is a good linebacker, but I still don't see this as improving the Eagles.
