I guess it is time to start burning bluray DVDs at home.   Now that Rifftrax has large HD releases, time to leave the past decade of regular DVDs in the past.

Now, HOW to burn them at home?

My home PC plan will always be a simple laptop.   I will never want to watch movies on it, but burning DVDs for my plasma TV?   Yes!

There are several external DVD creation devices you just plug into your computer.   Not so sure about expensive laptops to build the blurays internally.

Is this device any good?   Any suggestions?

Stop calling them DVDs!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray Disc, BD

OK, rant over....

Not sure I would trust a Blu-Ray burner to work over USB 2, but a quick look at the reviews doesn't seem to have that as an issue...  Single layer BDs are 25GB, dual layer 50GB so over USB 2 it's going to take a while...  There are complaints that it doesn't come with any software so you will need to get software.

For software, I use the Nero suite of programs.  And a program called multiAVCHD to take lower resolution video and put them on Blu-Ray.

For an internal burner I've got this one, has been working very well:

For discs, get a couple of BD-REs to test with, BD-R discs are still pretty expensive so it does pay to get a few erasable ones.  I ignored this in the beginning and after several coasters and discs with playback issues I went and got a few BD-RE discs.

BD......30% less alphabet to type.   Deal!

25gb or 50gb....... I assume copying a BD movie onto a 25gb would look fine?

Dual layer BDs are still pretty expensive, I've only used one once.  Pretty much anything under 2 hours will fit just fine on a single layer (25GB) disc.

Thanks for the info.

I see the USB 2.0 BD burner in my future.

I'd be interested in hearing how it works.  Looking at the reviews only a few of the type, "died after a month", I look for how many of those there are relative to "it works great" reviews, that drive seems to have a very good ratio...
