i think it wouldnt hurt if the guys tried to put their rifftrax on itunes. i have a ton of itunes bucks just sitting around and i cant find a better place to put em towards than rifftrax. id be much more willing to spend 2.99 on there then out of my own money, plus since this thing is meant for ipods/mp3 players, why not cut out the middleman and just make it directly downloadable to the ipod? makes sense to me

ummm, that would be adding a middle man.

Talked about it, but it probably won't happen for a few reasons.  Itunes would probably interfere with the unrestricted MP3 availability, you'd be able to do less with them and listen to them with fewer methods, which we don't want.  They would also be reluctant to stock something that isn't really self explanatory.  RiffTrax doesn't really fall into the audio book or song category.

im not really saying putting them on itunes would be their only option, it would be a nice altnerative. i think they should really look into it cuz of my reasons above and it would also bring alot more attention to rifftrax by serving it through a larger medium (something theyd really want). if it is really true itunes would have a hard time "explaining" or "organizing" its product, i dont think it would mean totally avoiding selling it. its unique, fun, and has a large cult following that would bring in lots of money. it might also lead to mst3k coming to the itunes library  ;D

Wouldn't work.  BIGGEST problem is that songs from iTunes do not play on any mp3 player except iPods.  Also, MST3K would probably never grace iTunes due to HUGE rights issues with episodes.

Not to mention the fact that our MP3s are DRM-free and can be converted to iPod format anyway. Maybe we're missing part of the market by not being on there, but at least it's still possible to play our tracks on any portable music player.

DRM is going the way of the old soon though.

First of all, iTunes only has AAC files for audio. Not MP3. That might change in the future, though, but Rifftrax would have to make their files available at least as AAC, and that would be a royal pain.

Second, the price tag is in its own category. Sure, they could add their own category, but I just don't see it happening for only Rifftrax. Everyone else would want their own category and price structure on iTunes.

The DRM issue is going away soon. Apple is planning on releasing much of its music without Digital Rights Management, though the pricetag will go up a little, but it's for music with higher quality/less compression.

Yeah, if you're a person who's never heard of recompression. It's easy as pie to reformat an AAC file as an MP3. C'mon, Shini, it's so simple!! You know that! This is the digital generation, everyone's learning at a geometric rate!   ;)

And Rude,

as a Mac Zealot, I feel safe knowing that I have my own little community that stays far away from Windows and all its evil. Call me an elitist, call me a dope who's caught up in a brainwashing cult. I don't care. I love it!! It gives me peace knowing I have a Mac I can rely on. WINDOWS IS EVIL!!!!

That is all.

;D

Hey Kodiak,

You're a dope who's caught up in a brainwashing cult.  ;)

You know that spaceship is running Windows as it's OS, right?

WE'RE ALL DOOMED!!!

As long as the spaceship's captains don't click on popup ads and dock with porn stations, they should be okay.

Meanwhile, the Mac OSX spaceship tried to bootup and found that one of its drives had failed for no apparent reason. What a crazy world!

A huge part of the problem is that iTunes sells movies, and needs to keep good relations with the rights holders.  Even if Rifftrax doesn't actually use the film contents, overly sensitive studio execs might feel that someone was unfairly benefiting off of their work.  Moreover, they might not be happy with Rifftrax poking fun at their movies.

If Apple ever allows for paid subscriptions to podcasts, there might be more possibility since there would be an added level of separation.
