good thing I saw it before they fuck it up

That seems to me like throwing good money after bad.  Wouldn't it be more expensive to do that?  And wouldn't each film have to perform considerably better on its own to make back its money?  I didn't think it was necessarily a "disastrous" opening weekend.  It's a niche film, playing to a niche audience.  Even with Tarantino and Rodriguez attached, it's not really a movie for the masses.  I don't think they'll actually cut it into two movies.  That would just be silly at this point.

I think it's possible considering they're cutting it up for different countries.

That's just fucking stupid.  There's absolutely NO WAY those two films are going to do better split into two films than they are as one movie.  There wouldn't be as much interest or recognition (i.e. people won't know what the hell these movies are).  If they split Grindhouse where it's already been released, they're going to lose money - and that's a goddamn guarantee.

If they split Grindhouse before I get the chance to see it (couldn't because of the groin-kickingly stupid EASTER RELEASE DATE), then I'm not seeing it.  Period.
Correction: the coat hanger should be upside down.

I agree. "Hmm. They won't buy them as a 2 for one!? What if we sell them... 1 for 1! I'm BRILLIANT!" :^)

Yeah, I think the folks at Weinstein are going into Panic Mode a bit early on this one.

All I can say is, I'm glad I got to see it in the theaters while it was still playing as a double feature. Couldn't care less whether the two movies come out separately as a reissue, don't care how it's released on TV/DVD (though, on DVD, there's enough room for the 3-hour double feature version) -- as long as you can see it once as a double feature, it doesn't matter how it's released in the future. I got to say, though, it'd be great if they put out another double feature every year. It would definitely make me want to get down to the theater more often, if I got the same kind of viewing experience with Planet Terror/Death Proof. 8)
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

The DVD release just HAS to be a double feature.   There is no way they can release these in two DVDs.

Personally, I prefer to buy DVDs, watch them at home with my own brew, on my own plasma set, pause them when I need to and not sit in the theater next to some mouth breather.

The theater was largely empty when I was there. There were only a handful of people there. I sat up front in a row of empty seats, only a few rows away from the screen. 8)

I plan on taking this Friday off and seeing the noon showing at my local Alamo Draft house.   Hmmmm, Grindhouse, a bucket of beer and a pizza!

As Mel Brooks said, "Its good to be the king"

We're still advertising it over here as one movie, so I'm hoping that doesn't change.  I know one thing, though: All the one-sheets we have are coming home with me!

pyro

friend's going to give me a bootleg copy for free since I let him copy my notes or I let him borrow MST3K DVDs or something.... either way, I'll have the original theatrical release (hopefully in good quality) regardless, and then I'll also be awaiting a copy of each official release from Santa

I would KILL for a one sheet!!!!

Nunyerbiz

I'm on the road for work... figured I'd kill a couple of hours outside the hotel by seeing this movie just because the wife would never see it with me.

It was entertaining enough and very well done... but my god, the whole thing stunk with self-satisfaction. Apart from maybe the cloyingness of Forrest Gump, I can't recall the last time I saw a movie so in love with itself. Maybe that was the point, but I'm starting to think that Taratino is getting too big for his britches and he took Rodriguez along for the ride.

EDIT: I didn't read the previous 14 pages of this post, so I apologize if I'm retreading ground that has been covered already.

If you are seeing it an Alamo Draft House, be prepared for some cheers in the beginning of Death Proof.
It was really shot in Austin....
Grapes? I hate grapes, I can't stand grapes. I loathe grapes. All kinds of grapes. I hate green grapes and I hate purple grapes. I hate grapes with seeds, I hate grapes without seeds. I hate them peeled and nonpeeled. I hate them in bunches, one at a time and in small groups of twos and threes.
