The Blu-ray restores the Theatrical version. It will fall out of sync about 40 minutes in.   Just a heads up.

QuoteFor Trek VI there are 4 changes that amount to 3 min 26 seconds.

1. The Operation Retrieve sequence in the presidents office with Sarek Col West, the CinC & Ad Cartwright
2. Spock, Scott & Valeris in the torbedo storage bay discussing the new Klingon Chancellor.
3. Scott in the dining hall looking at blueprints (no dialogue)
4. The unmasking of the shooter, exposed as Col. West

So, if I'm reading this correctly, to create a "Theatrical Release" version of the Rifftrax, we would just have to edit out some jokes, totaling 3m26s?

From wikipedia:

QuoteAs with the other nine Star Trek films, The Undiscovered Country was re-released on DVD as a Special Edition in 2004. Meyer, who stated he dislikes director's cuts, nevertheless found "a couple of moments that I thought were not clear", and re-edited them as "I suddenly saw how to make them clear."[27] Among the elements added for home video were a briefing with the Federation president where Admiral Cartwright and Colonel West unveil their plan for rescuing Kirk and McCoy, and a scene where Spock and Scott inspect the torpedoes. Some shots were reordered or replaced, with wide-angle shots replacing close angles and vice versa.[12] The special features included a commentary track with Meyer and Flinn, featurettes detailing the special effects, production, and historical inspiration of the film, and a tribute to actor DeForest Kelley.[109]

So not only was there added stuff scenes were re-edited. Probably more trouble than its worth.

A person who watched the blu ray on his tv and the directors cut on his laptop to find all the differences would have to be pretty nerdy.

I'll get right on it.

I am going through and re-making a lot of my RiffTrax in HD, and got hung up on this one only to come and find this thread! Bah!

Action Batch, if you actually do go through and make that list of changes and figure out how to sync the riff, that would be fantastic!

I know he was working on it.  What I wound up doing is I bought the HD version of the director's cut from iTunes.  If you know where to look you can find a nifty little program called Requiem, that will strip the DRM out of the file so you can use the file on whatever device you want. I have done this for several RiffTrax that you can't get HD versions of.... Crossroads, Wickerman, Daredevil, Jaws 3, Ghost Rider to name a few.

Oh, very interesting. I'll keep that in mind!

TC = Theatrical Cut
DC = Director's Cut

Alright. So it appears I'm about a year and a half late on this, but I buckled down and did it. Here is my guide to converting the Rifftrax for Star Trek 6 DC, to Star Trek 6 TC.

Here we go. No, wait. I have to preface this by saying that after you make these cuts, you do have to go through and make sure the jokes are still lining up. This guide, these cuts will get you VERY close, but due to compression, transfer, other words and things, the DC and TC tend to drift. A bit. Sometimes not at all, it's unpredictable.

The first cut happens at 0:38:53. In this scene, the President has to decide whether or not to extradite Kirk and McCoy from the Klingons. In the TC, the scene ends with the line "This President is not above the law." In the DC the scene goes on with a rescue plan.
Cut everything after Bill's quip "Pfft, pussy" which occurs at 0:38:53, and before Mike's quip "So, in the future hearing aides become..." which occurs around 0:40:44. A good reference point to sync the riff back up is the feint voice of Starfleet in Uhura's ear saying "Report back at once." Mike should start his hearing aide line immediately after the word "once".

The second cut happens at (TC time) 0:41:25. In the DC Spock, Scotty and Valaris have a conversation about computers not lying and Klingon morality.
Cut everything after Mike's quip "$89.95 plus shipping and handling" at 0:41:25, and before Kevin's quip "Yes! Go toward the light movie. That's it..." at 0:42:49. A good reference point to sync the riff back up are the Klingons chanting "Kirk! Kirk! Kirk!" After the third "Kirk!" Kevin should start his quip.

The third cut happens at (TC time) 1:19:16. The editor felt it necessary for the DC to swap two shots of Scotty looking at blue prints of the ship. You just have to cut a couple seconds to get it to sync back up. A good reference point is when Scotty gets up from his chair there is an audible creak (LOL). Using Kevin's quip "Wait a minute...maybe if we wrap the boiled egg in sausage...", right after Kevin says "minute" and before he says "maybe" you should hear the creak in the natural pause of the joke.

The fourth cut is another small one. At (TC time) 1:23:25 the editor inserted a push in shot of Kirk when he says "My personal log was used against me." There was little more than a second cut or added here. You will need to fix these three jokes:
1. KIRK: My personal log was used against me. BILL: They took a stool sample?
2. KIRK: How long did you wait outside my quarters before I noticed you? MIKE: ...and your tantalizing lady-ness.
3. VALARIS: You knew? KEVIN: Huh. What? Oh yeah, sure. Yeah. Knew everything.
Everything after these jokes should be in sync until the fifth cut.

The fifth cut (which is not really a cut at all) starts at (TC time) 1:25:44. This one is a little different. In this scene Spock is mind-melding with Valaris to find the names of the conspirators. In the DC, they inserted a shot of the character after their name is said. This doesn't happen in the TC, so when Mike makes the joke "I was in To Kill a Mockingbird,  now look at me!" it dosen't make sense because in the TC there's no still image of Admiral Cartwright. This is true for General Chang and the Romulan Ambassador, also. I elected to take the jokes out because they don't make any sense without the image of the actors. There is no need to cut or add time here, just silence the jokes, if that's what you decide to do.

The sixth and final cut, which has been affectionately called "The Scooby-Doo Ending" happens at (TC time) 1:39:33. In the DC someone notices that the dead assassin's blood isn't Klingon, and they remove his mask to reveal the Starfleet Colonel who earlier proposed to extradite Kirk and McCoy.
Cut everything after Kevin's quip "'Twas Scotty killed the beast" at 1:39:28, and before Bill's quip "Up here, Grandpa!" at 1:39:58. You have to sync up Bill's line after Kirk says "It's about the future, Madam Chancellor." There's about two beats between Kirk's line and Bill's quip.

Well, that's it. It's an undertaking, to be sure. But I think it's worth it.

Howdy folks, sorry for reviving an old, dead thread.

Wondering if anyone had a version of this riff file they would be willing to share with us. We're looking to update our version of the riff on the app and it looks like some of you have already been down this path.

Let me know when you can. Thanks!
