I didn't get an email, either.  It was either Facebook or Twitter that informed me about this one.  Then again, I must admit, thank to social media and me obsessively checking the website, I've usually purchased the riffs even before I get an email!

MartyS (Gromit)

I got the email around 2pm.

Message forums like this are being killed off by social media.  The only one I know of that hasn't had huge membership drops is rcgroups, a forum for radio controlled cars/plane/helicopters.  I guess that type of board will survive, since it would be hard to replace with social media, all the people that own a certain model of something in one spot to share tips and tricks on how to make it work better.

Don't get it. Social media is worthless for me regarding Rifftrax. I don't have a single friend on Facebook who is a fan. And there is no place to post my reviews, see how others react to a new riff etc. I expect I'm not alone in this. Or am I missing something exciting out there?

I dunno, sometimes I get an e-Mail sometimes I don't.  But I do expect a new Trax to, usually, come sometime Tuesday and Thursday afternoon so I often check the site at those times. There's plenty of times I've bought and started downloading the new riff before a notice is posted here, on Facebook/social media or I get an eMail.

I'm not sure I see the problem - They are using social media AND posting on the forums AND sending out emails.

The forums is their SMALLEST audience share, but they are still posting here as the release happens.

It was just this one time they were a couple of hours behind the social media.

The VODs don't expire if you don't consume them within minutes of them coming out.
FINE

I think maybe you misunderstood me. I'm totally fine with the use of all three and in fact learned of this release in email which is totally cool by me. I don't see what the issue is. Email or whatever is fine. My response (the quote button doesn't work for me right now so that's an issue) was to Marty's saying/implying social media was going to kill off the forums (as I understood him) or had cut down on forum use. That I don't get because there are things only in a forum that I can enjoy (as mentioned) and I must certainly not be alone one hopes.

P.S. It's rare that I even watch a VOD on the day of release. What a patient man I am! In fact, I highly recommend Rifftrax also notify us by post. ; )

Right click the quote button and open in a new tab - Or, to fix it for good, disable the 'quick reply' option in your account settings.

To whomever made the point, they've been on facebook and twitter for a long while now. The forums have been less of a focus for years now, certainly nothing's changed recently.

Though I would hazard a guess they would probably rather not have the forums if they could do it over again.
FINE

Thanks.

I would venture to guess that if they did not have this forum fans would make their own.

It was a general statement about all forums like this, the past few years since Facebook got so popular the number of regulars on places like this has dropped quite a bit.  6 years ago the guys would drop in and post here once in a while, now it's easier to reach way more people with facebook and twitter.

I'm going to be away from the comp for a bit this morning, so I won't be able to put up the full announcement until later in the day...so you're hearing it first here: new VOD today. I'd give hints as to the title but I don't want to breach any of the guys' plans.
Any issues with the RiffTrax main page should be directed to support@rifftrax.com Attempts to engage with me directly about such matters will result in ridicule.

My biggest complaint about the forums currently is the "Announcements" category has basically been abandoned, and announcements are being posted under "Coming Soon", such as this thread for The Apple.  The way I see it, IMHO:

- Announcements should be for threads like this one "New VOD 'The Apple' Now Available!!!"
- Coming soon should be for the guys or mods to post hints to new riffs, or possible release/important days to look out for.
- General Rifftrax Talk should be for anything fan related regarding new riffs, such as possible interpretations of cryptic facebook/twitter posts (like those we got from Conor regarding "The Apple" or Mike regarding "Viva Knievel")

As a consistent lurker/occasional poster on these forums, this is just my 2 cents.

Given that the email went out earlier, all I can say is "Hell yes!" for the announcement. I've seen the unriffed film and it is awful. The phobic might want to avoid it though. Just saying there's a gajillion of the things in it.

So did I, since I'm not on any form of social media.  That seems like my kind of movie.  However, alas, unless I magically come into a metric shit-ton of cash, I'll be adding this to my ever-growing "When I'm Permanently Employed Again" list.  :'(  It really must be nice to have an income.

It makes sense, but it's been this way for a while now and it works fine. People subscribe to the coming soon area for notifications more than the announcements because of back in the 20Q's days.
