No offense guys, but I'm really astounded to see so much Will Ferrell love among MSTies/Riffaholics.

I'd be curious to know how enjoying both the occasional Will Ferrell movie as well as MST/Rifftrax is incompatible.

They're not incompatible, just surprising. MSTies have always struck me as having higher standards in comedy than the one-note oblivious manchild character that Will Ferrell plays in nearly every movie or SNL sketch he's ever done.

Well, I can see your point. Now I've never really bought into the MSTie "higher standard" snobbery, as the Brains were not invulerable to the urge of dropping poop / fart / sex / low brow jokes when warranted. Of course, this is usually ignored because many fans wet themselves with self-important pride when they catch that wonderful "Fawlty Towers" reference.... "Oh how smart we are!!!! The unwashed masses never even heard of that one!!!"

As far as Ferrell, I think there is a difference between playing the "one-note oblivious manchild" and playing it well. There is something to be said about the performance itself that is seperate from a simple description of the role. Ferrell is good as what he does, sometimes the material helps him (Anchorman) and sometimes it doesn't (Talledega).

On a side note, this may have to be my girlfriends new favorite movie, cause I asked her to marry me in the parking lot after the movie.  Sounds classy right?  I'm always the type of person to add a bit of humor to every situation I can,  We went ring shopping a couple of months ago and I'm ever since we've had a running joke going where I let her into the car and instead of unlocking the door she refuses to push the button and keeps asking "When am I getting my ring?" in a very "Bridezilla" manner until I tell her "Soon."   This time I had the ring in my pocket and took it out and said "do you mean this one?"  She freaked out and after about 3 minutes of crying, I'm happy to say she said yes.

Congrats!   ;D

Where is that damn bride and groom emoticon when I need it?!?!

Congrats Raven...

Woo! Waydigo!  How could you even WATCH the movie with the ring in your pocket? :^)

Thanks pakky.  I've been trying to figure out how to give it to her for about a week and half now.  Honestly, I kinda got used to it being in my pocket so it wasn't really bothering me.  The opportunity just kinda presented itself so I didn't even really get a chance to be nervous about it.

And thank you to Bathtub, Nunyerbiz, and mrbasehart as well.

Haha, congratulations!

No you're right, there is no wedding emoticon, but there's a great "analrapist" screenshot haha

I thought it was pretty funny... Ferrell's performance was nothing terribly surprising, another solid take on his usual character. In this case, Ron Burgandy crossed with his "VH-1 Storytellers" Neil Diamond from the SNL days. Jon Heder wasn't bad, I figured Ferrell would have completely overpowered the movie... but Heder isn't a bad straight man. He also managed to land a few laughs on his own here and there. The skating scenes were all hilarious, complete with goofy special effects and some "Daredevil" style physics at times. Just a fun, goofy movie from beginning to end. That said, I was a little dissapointed that more wasn't done with Poehler and Arnett as the villians... Arnett is particular looked uninterested.

 Congratulations, Raven. Good luck making it through the terrifying engagement period.

At the risk of further alienating myself, does anyone else find Amy Poehler extremely irritating?

Uh-oh. You're not marrying Amy Poehler, are you Raven? That would be embarrassing...

They were daring each other, and it just escalated into marriage. ;)

You're not alone... but then again I always just assumed that was her schtick in most roles... being irritating. She does it very well. You're not supposed to really like her in this movie, so I thought it worked.

I'm such a fan of Will Arnett, I'd only see it for him actually.  When I was living in NYC my friends and I would go see Poehler and the original Upright Citizens Brigade troupe and she was great!  It seems like her SNL success has changed her comedy - it's just not as fresh.  Does that make sense?

Did you see the latest episode of 30 Rock? He was on there and was pretty friggin funny. He was having a battle of the raspy voices against Alec Baldwin. It was great!
