Went to an Oscar Party tonight and I ordered a New York Strip. My brother and his date then joined me at the table. I told my brother, who is a HUGE Guy from Harlem fan, that I ordered a "New York Strip Streak Well Done." And then he asked "Did you ask for J&B Scotch?" Hardy-har. A few minutes later he goes to bathroom and his date asks me "...you didn't really order that steak well done, did you?" And I was all "No. Little inside joke."

Bob

My dad started eating his steaks well done, then started to buy nice steaks and cook them medium rare as he got better steaks.

I don't order steak, ever, but if I did, it'd be well-done. I don't eat raw meat.

I've eaten beef sashimi style, and I would do it again :)

Is that the Virginia Tech shooter thing?  If so, then yes.

I usually go medium for my steak.  If I really trust the place or if I'm cooking it myself I might go medium-rare.

If it's a decent place, then I'll order "as the chef recommends".

I'm not partial to steak either. But when I do, I get it charred. Preferably served with a size of teriyaki sauce and screw anyone that has a problem with that.

If you don't have a problem with less cooked food, it really does taste much much better.  If you do have a problem with less cooked food, that's your prerogative. People can eat what they want.

Wolves like to rape their meat raw?  Huh?  What are we talking about?

I could give a crap for how rare people eat their meat. If you have to stimulate some primitive hunter need by flirting with Staphylococcus, that's all you.  Personally, I think near-raw meat tastes revolting and I like the slight char taste (that doesn't mean burnt). But you won't see me look all aghast because you prefer it bloody.

Bob

Maybe some day you will be a sophisticated food person like we medium rare fans are.

I will make sure I cry a bit for you all.

Kinda, gets you, oh so sad..........

At least my doberman has figured it all out.

Now, where did I put the raw pig head?

Not well-done =/= raw. A steak cooked to medium doneness has an internal temperature well above the one required to kill the types of bacteria we're afraid of in beef. RARE is enough to do it, in fact. Especially since most of the types of bacteria on beef we're afraid of lives on the surface of the meat, not the inside. (This is why hamburger has to be cooked to a higher temperature. The outside is now mixed with the inside.) So cooking a steak to even rares is "fully cooked."  I can see not liking rare steak it's an acquired taste, but wanting a steak well done "because its cooked" is silly.  Cooking food causes moisture to leave it, a well-done steak has has a LOT of moisture cooked out of it which means it's going to not only be dry but lacking in flavor.

People who say "I want my food cooked" are really saying "I'm squicked out by the color red."

Get you steak cooked to medium doneness, it'll be juicy and full of flavor and unless you have some really rare and severe auto-immune disease you won't get sick off of it.  Don't let that little bit of red scare you it's perfectly cooked.

Especially in the case of strip steak -as ordered in the movie- as strip steak doesn't like being too over cooked because it dries out pretty fast after a certain point. (Especially if it's a strip steak from a sirloin end.)

I *AL:WAYS* order my steak "Well done... like... JERKY well done. Just tell the chef to give me a piece of bark."
...and there he was, reigning supreme at number two.  The One... The Only... The Unabeefer.
