hi everybody. i'm a long-time mst3k fan who's also a big fan of mike nelson's books and decided to sign up for this forum mainly to stump for a rifftrax version of my favorite all-time bad movie, devil dog: the hound of hell. i know it will probably never happen but i'ma give it a shot.

i've got a bunch of mike nelson's dvds, too, like carnival of souls and the vincent price flick (that one's hilarious!) and i met trace beaulieu once. :) but i've never gotten a rifftrax yet, i think i'll pick one up this weekend. i hear roadhouse is the best first one to get? i know mike has long had a strange love for that movie. but at the same time the youtube sample of "the wicker man" is hilarious, and -- has anyone seen that recut version of "wicker man" on youtube yet? where it's all nic cage beating up girls and overacting? just uproariously funny.

so i'm torn.

Pak-Man

Go for a double-feature. Both of 'em are outstanding Rifftrax. :^)

Welcome, DD! Everyone has different favourites, but I think Roadhouse is in most peoples' top three.

Just Some Guy

I'd say pick a film you kind of like but could make fun of first.  If you kind of like Battlefield Earth (to pick the example that no one would agree with) but think that Travolta's performance is goofy enough to laugh at it, then that's the Rifftrax to start with.  You'll be able to watch the film without turning it off in disgust and probably know it well enough that you're concentrating on the Riff rather than the film.

That said my personal favorite three (which change from moment to moment) are Daredevil, Terminator 3, and Crossroads.  If I had to pick ones to avoid I'd say The Grudge (the riffing isn't strong enough to overcome the bland film, unlike Battlefield Earth and Troll 2 which have the advantage of being the most freakish films done for Rifftrax), Lord of the Rings (it's a rough first one due to the split file and the length wears you down), and XXX (Mike just seemed off somehow on that one to me).

That's the inherent beauty orf RiffTrax.  How inexpensive it is.  Even after renting or buying the DVD,and the RiffTrax, you've still doubtlessly spent far lessthan you would've to seeany one particular movie at the theaters during it's theatrical release.

And once again, the duty falls to me, as RiffTrax Main Unofficial Greeter to say...

Therein lies probably the second most greatest(?) inherent beauty of RifTrax... (hey, sue me, I'm hopped up on lack of sleep and cold remedies)  The fact that Mike and the gang are really putting forth a stellar effort to place product output at an all time high, with no apparent signs of slowing....

Speaking of which, I mean to pick up the slack, as one of the most prolific posting Unofficial RiffTrax Greeters here....

*looks right, then looks left*, well, I suppose the others will be by soon to harass, er greet you (especially platypus)  For the time being though maybe I can give you some things that will make your stay here a bit more ...interesting  yeah, that's it...  Here ye be... *Gives Just Some Guy a tube with several pairs of designer Chin-der wear, a Big-Gulp Beret, and a Mexican Bean-Bag Chair...

i was gonna say -- where do *i* even keep all this stuff i'm getting? ima need a giftbag, or at least something like whatever torgo's using to store his crazybread. :P

thanks for the warm welcome yall. i ended up getting roadhouse and the wicker man (neither of which i actually own, so i'm now in netflix wait mode)... i also got nestor: the long-eared donkey on a whim and then realized i have no idea where to actually get a copy of it.

BathTub

Netflix has it, The year without Santa, I think was the name of the DVD with Nestor on it.

First, thank you for the chin-der wear, but it appears to have been used.  I'm not even going to try to figure out what those stains are...

Devil Dog, those are two good riffs, but I have to advise you that if you have not seen the original Wicker Man to watch it first.  The remake is so mind blastingly awful that when you watch the original all you can think about is the remake.  The original version is a good film, one of the best horror films ever made, and you owe it to yourself to watch it first so that you can be more angry at the Nick Cage film when it is riffed.

Thom_Serveaux

Sorry about the chin-der wear, rest assured, a member of my staff won't be able to sit for a week, if it's who I think it is... *grabs paddle*

that's sage advice, JSG, i've been meaning to see the original for a long time, i'll put it up on the top of my queue, even if it DOES mean i'll have to wait longer to watch the episode of Punky Brewster with the Bee Gees as guest star. netflix is truly a wonderful thing. ;D
