I agree you with MasterChief but I take the other view.  I think all religions are probably RIGHT.  I'm sure none of them get it 100% right but I think everyone is right enough that God understands that we can't comprehend something as big as he is and we only see a part of the picture. We're just dumb humans.  Even Christians say he's incomprehensible and then they try to tell me that they understand him enough to know I'm wrong and they're right.  It's silly.  Then again, I am a dumb human so God is probably really pissed at me right now and I'm probably missing the boat too!

You just have to find the one that fits with you best and go with that.  If you turn out to be wrong in the end, oops.  At least you did the best you could and if that's not good enough for whatever God is out there than nothing is.

That being said I forgot to mention that I laughed so hard at Mike's review of was it "Charmed" the movie? in Megacheese it wasn't even funny.  I dunno if we'd get along in real life (he seems to be a strict Christian...he'd probably try to exorcise me like some of the strict Christians I've known) but who knows?  For some reason, I found his mocking hilarious and spot on.

So all religions are probably right with existance. Where does that leave the ones where there is a belief in the nonexistance? Don't tell me... :rimshot: probably not.

because you're quoting people? you just sound like a first year Uni student and I'm sorry to say it's far less impressive than you seem to think it is.

Ding ding ding!   We have a winner!

It wasn't meant to be impressive... I'm not trying to impress anyone!

That's seriously the best you can do?  that's so sad.

Eh, those people are just morons.   ;)  I'm just kidding.  They can be right too.  How? I don't know but if they are correct, well aren't the rest of us going to look stupid?  Kudos for them.  If they aren't correct in that one basic belief, I bet they got some other things right.  Were they kind? Were they good people? Did they not string their neighbors intestines from the clothesline when he ran over their cat?  Surely they didn't completely screw up God's design for them and surely if they don't believe, an omnipotent God would understand why they chose that route.

Not to say everyone is going to end up in Heaven (I don't even believe in Heaven) but I think if God does exist, he's gotta have a good sense of humor about things.  Just look at the world around us.  On the other hand, if he doesn't exist, well, damn.  However, I don't think believers have really wasted anything. As I said before, religion was and is a way to cope and understand the world around us. Some of us can find comfort in science but some need more.  If being Catholic and going to mass makes you feel better and makes your life fuller, in the end does it really matter if you're wrong?

Randy, you ARE aware that modern "paganism" is about seventy-five years old, and has virtually NOTHING to do with ancient pre-Christian religions, right?

Well, that's where I believe that the three main monotheistic relelgions are all wrong. Who in their  right mind would bother worshipping a petty sadist God who is focused not only on revenge but on how cruel he can make it. Arguments that God existed because of the bible are flat out absurd. If someone did happen to "discover" God from another source, it's quite likely that they believe in God because they aren't in India. It all happens to be a chance of geography and the parents relegion, there is no relegion that includes a diety that happens to be right, because they all claim it is.

AmandaGal

The way I think is that we are human, of course we're going to think we're right and we're the only view.  However, just because we think that doesn't mean a diety, who is quite literally all, thinks that way too.  It's a bit dumb to say that God is everything and omnipotent but he can't be more than one "thing," in my view.  He can't be Christian and Muslim...yes he can.  I think the different religions just see deity from different perspectives.

So yes, I think they can be "right" in that the way they see God, their beliefs are true.  However, the other groups are also right in that from the perspective they have on God, they are also correct.  To me, religion is all about perspective.  It's like one of the puzzles where if you focus one way you see one thing but if you focus another, you see another thing.  Are you wrong because you think the picture is a frog? No.  Is the other guy wrong because he thinks the picture is a horse?  No.  What about the person who just sees a big ink blot? They're right too.  You can argue that, "THIS IS A FROG!" until your blue in the face but the guy who sees the horse is going to say, "What the hell? It's a horse.  You're completely nuts.  There is no way it can be a frog. Look, here's his tail and his mane and his saddle..." Then there's going to be some guy who's all "what the heck is a frog OR a horse? I don't even know what you're talking about..."  He'll never make anything out of it.

I like to think that God or Goddess or Allah or whoever the hell you worship understands that humans don't have all the pieces of the puzzle and even if we did, we're not designed to understand them.  Being how we are, we're almost conditioned not to change our focus from one way to the other.

I wish to apologize to everyone with this stupid-ass thread.  We started to have fun, but really, it is degenerating into stupidity and it is all my fault.

I ask some kind moderator to put this thread out of it's misery, lock it, kill it, delete it, as the author I authorize you to do this.

Please...

Quote from: Charles DarwinWith savages, the weak in body or mind are soon eliminated; and those that survive commonly exhibit a vigorous state of health. We civilised men, on the other hand, do our utmost to check the process of elimination; we build asylums for the imbecile, the maimed, and the sick; we institute poor-laws; and our medical men exert their utmost skill to save the life of every one to the last moment. There is reason to believe that vaccination has preserved thousands, who from a weak constitution would formerly have succumbed to small-pox. Thus the weak members of civilised societies propagate their kind. No one who has attended to the breeding of domestic animals will doubt that this must be highly injurious to the race of man. It is surprising how soon a want of care, or care wrongly directed, leads to the degeneration of a domestic race; but excepting in the case of man himself, hardly any one is so ignorant as to allow his worst animals to breed.
The Descent of Man

By this evidence, Darwin would have be supportive of the Holocaust and Stalin's purging.  See what happens when you throw around judgements?

NOTE:  Though he might have thought about it objectively, I do believe he WOULD NOT have approved of course.  This is only an example of like.

RobtheBarbarian

Except that the victims of the purgings were all chosen on their political and religious background, not their physical or mental fitness.
