Woo! I just scored a second interview for the Technical Writer position!

This interview is going to take place in a Cafe. I've never interviewed in one before. Do they buy me a coffee or something? Is there etiquite I should know about?

Congrats!  It's probably to find out how well you socialize and if they could get along with you.  When I interview people, this is usually the kind of thing that my boss wants me to look for.

And because the biggest job interview of my life isn't stressful enough, I have a big ol' festering cold sore right now. I wonder if it's better to just apologize for it up front, or try to cover it with makeup...

If it's on your upper lip, you might wanna consider a fake mustache.

The recruiter for the position in Radnor (this is the position I mentioned earlier saying that the traffic and the 45 mile commute concerned me) E-Mailed me again today.  This is after I cancelled the interview on Monday.  He said they still haven't found the best candidate among those they already interviewed.  So he asked if I'd be willing to reconsider the interview if they could offer more money and more flexibility regarding the work schedule.  He's saying that they could give me a daily start time as early at 6 AM, which would let me beat the traffic.  I said that sounded better and I'd be willing to interview if they would be willing to give me a second chance.

Ooo! You better practice, Sides. If they call you back for a second interview, they might quiz you on your evil laugh.

This week I've been training on 2nd shift (2-10:30pm) learning my actual job and Not Once have I got to go home on time, in fact I have no idea when I will get to leave at the end of my shift as it depends on getting the orders set for coating..
Been averaging around 11pm but last night wasn't until almost 1 am! >:(
Gotta work this shift all next week before going back to first shift to train in another department..

I don't mind the work overall but I don't like the fact of not knowing when my shift will end at all! :-X

Welp so far the job is going well for me..
Over 2 months now and there's talk of starting up a weekend shift which I volunteered for but still have a lot of training to do yet but the boss man thinks I'll be ready when ever he decides to start it up..
Been on 2nd shift the last 6 weeks and still not getting my 5% shift differential yet so that will be retro'd..
And as of May 1 I now have full medical and dental insurance! :highfive:
I'm quite busy throughout the shift but overall I am glad to have a job :)

I have four job interviews this week.  Four!  I like my job at the hotel though, if I'm hired I'll have to make some choices.  They're all out of town.  But the rate of pay is nice, and they all offer benefits.  Which the hotel job does not.

One of the interviews is at Virginia Tech!  I couldn't believe it, I would love to work at Tech, but I bet its tough to get in.

I'm so glad I quit Walmart, I only stayed because I was scared to death.  When I lost my job at the library I was out of work for months, and Walmart was the only job I could get.  Couldn't even get a fast food job, I applied for everything.  Finally feeling some bit of hope with the economy.  Even if I don't get the jobs, I'm liking my current one.

Congratulations on the interviews.  Four is great.  Hopefully you'll get the Virginia Tech position.  But if not, it's nice to have three other options :)

With the bad economy, I was thinking about applying for a night stock job at Walmart.  After all the bad things I've heard and read about Walmart, though, I'm not so sure.  I heard they're anti-union, they don't give people their scheduled breaks on time or at all, they consider bathrooms breaks or any other activity but work to be "time-theft" and they fire people if they take too many sick days, even if you have a doctor's note.  Sounds like a great company to work for  ::)

At my Walmart (and I think they're all pretty much the same) I got anti-union paperwork and had to watch a video about the evil of them on my first day.  Orientation day.

I hear overnight stocking is better than working the floor, although I would hear how some overnighters would just walk out.  I didn't always get my two breaks, never anyone to cover me.  Although, if you're working in the back, that's not as big of a problem.  And yes, even going to the bathroom could be a problem.  My position was in the fitting room, and I answered all calls that came in, so I could not leave the phone without coverage.  Once I had the stomach flu and was told to go home because they couldn't cover all my bathroom breaks.  Which didn't make a lick of sense to me, who was going to cover the friggin phone when I went home?  Dumbasses.

And one of my co-workers was fired for missing too many days.  She had the flu, and a doctor's note.  She had been there over ten years.  And another had heart problems, she took a leave of absence (meaning, the days don't count against you, but you aren't paid) after 5 months she came back.  Soon after she passed out at work and missed a few days.  She was fired soon after that.  Nobody says why she was fired, and she's not talking, but I have a feeling it was because of that.

After working there I would say stay far away.   But I know sometimes you're forced to take a job you don't want, I totally understand that.

Welp, as you may (may not) have noticed, I haven't been on the forum a whole lot as of late thanks to my job..

Finished off 5 days in a row of 11 - 12 hour days and have been informed that I will be running (yes running) the weekend shift once it is started up (pending on me getting trained up on the 3 different coating machines) so that just drives me more to get trained up ASAP! :o

Also that guy that was hired as the Quality Coordinator over me has quickly gained the reputation as 'the Break Room Coordinator' after only 1 month of being there as he is apparently in the break room much more than being inside the plant learning the 3 departments (Tools, Racing, and Components) ..

Still makes me feel good that I have been doing my job well and perhaps one day look at that QA coordinator position as a step up in the future should it become available again 8)
