The only time I have usually cared was when I saw Miramax releasing an asian film.  City on Fire (Great Chow Yun-Fat film and the basis for Reservoir Dogs) was released only with a bad English dub and edited.

People still give a crap about what studio bankrolled a movie? It's not the '40s.
Here here!  They should just stop puting their logos before the movie.  Since when do people care about, or even notice, things?

Blueguy

generally speaking, I don't care, but since studios are split in support of either HD DVD or Blu-ray, I do care now who supports what.  Beyond that, I guess I don't really care.

Okay, let's say, you're the manager of, say, a restaurant. And you pay your employees $10 an hour. And at the end of the week, you give an employee his paycheck. Then, at the beginning of the next week, the employee claims not to have gotten the amount he's owed, even though he's already been given $1000 for the full week. He asks for ANOTHER thousand, even though he's already been paid the money he worked for. What do you do? Pay him the extra thousand, even though the guy doesn't deserve it? Or do you fire his chiseler ass and get someone else who can do the job just as well as he did or even better than he did? Let's also assume that he's been doing a really crappy job at...whatever. Do you pay him extra, even though his work is lousy? Well, that's what the New Line situation is. The way they handled the LOTR/Peter Jackson thing was one of the few times they've done something right since being bought out by the Time/Warner corporation.
This iRiff will only be on sale for another few hours. Get it while it's cheap!

BathTub

God you are so full of crap Issac, deliberate misrepresenting the issue.

"I know what the situation is because I've been corrected often enough before, but I have such a bug up my butt that I go into a frothy mouthed rage anytime someone mentiones Peter Jackson that I spout off complete dribble that gets wilder and wilder each time, blbluublbblublblbluuuublblllbblgrrrrrrr"

Seriously why is this so personal that you make up this rubbish?

Worldwide Gross = $871,368,364

well I gotta say that I disagree with your numbers here... Jackson made at least 250 million alone... something in your production numbers seems off (unless salaries dont count as production?)

BathTub

Probably the difference between how much it cost to make the movies, and then how much they get paid based on box office take.

Minnesota

But isnt that still "salary paid for Directing"... seems like production to me, your completely right of course Bathtub, (by the time all is said and done he will probably add another quarter billion for his directors salary)... not going to make the obvious comment of why thats a ludicrously bloated film production, but I will point out this interesting tidbit I just found on IMDB ... seems Jackson wasn't the only one with a big payday (or the only one with a gripe with New Line).

"The Hollywood producer who owns the rights to The Lord of the Rings books has been paid $168 million by the company behind Peter Jackson's Oscar-winning trilogy - despite never working on any of the hit movies. Saul Zaentz, 84, secured the rights to the J.R.R. Tolkien's books in 1976, and production company New Line made the big money payout after Jackson's trilogy made a staggering $2.9 billion. Zaentz sued New Line for a further $20 million after he said they based his share of royalties from foreign distributors on net income rather then from the gross profits. New Lines are still facing a legal challenge from the trilogy's Oscar-winning director Peter Jackson, who says the company withheld his share of profits from the first film."

I really like Anchor Bay Entertainment's DVD releases (i.e. Master's of Horror).  Mediablasters has some really good ones as well.

Minnesota

Sweet someone besides just me on this board loves Master's of Horror

Blueguy

I'm not about to suggest Peter Jackson hasn't made an ass-load of money off of the movies, but they have a contract and they should be honoring that contract to the letter.  If New Line didn't want to pay him the big bucks, they shouldn't have agreed to those terms in the first place.

The simple fact is, that is the money PJ and his team made as a reward, because they made New Line,  a metric shit load more money. No success? No Money.

Here is another thing to note, New Line, had covered their costs through licensing around the world before the films got to theatres.

Whoa whoa whoa. I don't worship Terry Gilliam like some people do, but no one deserves that kind of abuse.
