Chinese pirates man!

There's a children's book on sale over here in the U.K. that I keep seeing in newsagents and supermarkets: Vampires are cool, Pirates are cool, but what's better than both?

Vampirates!

I'll admit I'm almost tempted to read it  ;D

Phantom of Krankor

I'm so excited! It looks so epic. The big shot of Davey Jones and Jack Sparrow fighting on the mast makes me quiver with anticipation!!!! And Chow Yun Fat is going to kick @$$!!!

BTW, I don't understand why people keep comparing Dead Man's Chest to Matrix Reloaded? I thought I saw way more similarities to Empire Strikes Back than anything else. It had much better special effects than Reloaded's crummy CGI anyways...
I am Ambassador Phantom, from the planet Krankor! I am rapidly approaching your planet... in the warship, which you have just seen. I will arrive tomorrow night at precisely eight o'clock. At that time I shall make my wishes known to you. You will obey them... or die! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA! HA!

Me too.  thats exactly what i was thinking when leaving the theater.

dead mans chest also had better dialogue than mtraix reloaded or revolutions IMO

So now I have watched it. I am thinking that this is going to blow the weekend opener record....again.  This is going to be so good. I just don't want to try to hype it up too much in my mind cause I don't want to feel let down if it isn't as great as I thought it was originally. Either way, it looks fantastic! ;D

The problem with the whole box office thing though, is that it has to face off with Spiderman 3 which opens two weeks before it, and Shrek 3 which opens one week before it. So its going to have some competition, but it will still make loads of money reguarless though.

This entire summer is going to be a very good blockbuster year after last years lack luster effort. Not everyone is going to watch all three of those movies either. Those that do want to see all three (like me) will end up watching them the week they come out so they do'nt have to worry about scheduling problems. Of course I am just going to movie hop ;)

damn thats some crazy competition

spiderman- set records when it came out
shrek- it and its sequal set records when it came out
pirates- it and its sequal set records when it came out

what a crazy summer this will be.

Espeically considering the two spider man movies rank 7th and 10th total gross, Shrek holds 30th and Shrek 2 holds 3rd place, and PotC 1 has 22nd and then PotC2 is seated in 6th, yeah...powerline up.

...

I finally went to see 300 this weekend, and as i headed towards the theater i noticed two girls in pirate costumes watching the theater employees put up a Pirates 3 banner. I thought it was kinda' funny... like maybe they were super-mega fans taking pictures for their blog or something.

Anyway, my movie lets out and i notice that the entrance to the theater across from 300 is decorated all pirate-style. Coconut trees and a big treasure chest, parrots and whatnot. So, ah-ha... i'm catching on. Preview screening, right? But where are all the people?

Finally, i walk out into the lobby and there they are. At least a hundred people... all dressed as pirates! And not just like, cheezy out of a package pirate costumes. But full-blown, every detail down to the buttons pirate costumes. It was surreal~ Although, there were some super-hot pirate girls... but what a weird scene, man! Pirate subculture... weird stuff~

Ah yes, that would be the trailer premier. Basically, they showed the first pirate movie, then afterwards, they showed the new teaser trailer. This was done in a lot of cities.

Wait a minute...

You mean, all of that was basically just to see the trailer for the next movie?! As in, the trailer that anyone can watch for free... online... from the comfort of their home... without having to dress like a pirate? That trailer?

The same thing happened with the first prequal of the star wars films I remember. Not sure if they did it for the rest of them though.

more evidence of how huge this third movie is gonna be.

Fuzzy Necromancer

When I saw Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Mans chest, I thought

"Wow, a swashbuckling and sorcery film with a full cast of entertaining character, a kraken, tastefully employed special effects, a plot that is comprehensible without being overly predictable, and a sequel that manages to deliver the same level of quality set by the previous film without being repeating itself or becoming formulaic. This is so, obviously, undeniably like a full-of itself allegorical scifi crammed full of gratutious allusions and symbolism while primarily offering  a vessel for action-movie midair manuevers and extreme violence. How can you even tell these two films apart?"

Comparing Pirates of the Carribean to The Matrix is like comparing a three-star all you can eat buffet to a questionable jello mold.
