Danger Keep Out! is not just the sign any Taco Bell that carries the new taco whose shell is made of a giant Dorito is legally required to display. It's also the name of one of the finest Canadian safety epics ever produced.

One day, Christine decides to explore the construction site next to her house with her friend Mario, mostly as an excuse to escape her brother Ricky, whose default setting is "high-pitched whine" (a bold vocal technique later made popular by Bon Iver.) Christine and Mario have fun climbing on equipment, scaling ladders and leaping into piles of granular substances which likely rendered both of them sterile.

Of course, all this fun comes to a horrific end when Christine sets a trap for Mario and he has a terrible accident (that's actually what happens.)  It's then up to Ricky to save the day, which he does by lying to his parents faces and teaming up with a kid who looks like a less suave Steve Urkel.

Like Shake Hands With Danger but instead of a folksy narrator, you have one that is sometimes made of clay, Danger Keep Out! is one warning sign not worth heeding! Previous quote designed to pander for prominent placement on the box cover of Danger Keep Out! VHS edition.

You know I have to give the makers of this short props... the editing is decent, the sound is good, production values are decent, the acting is good, there's actually a STORY, and there's even an iota of tension! This is probably by far the BEST short that's been riffed so far.

The short was made by the creators of the Canadian "'tween" soap opera Degrassi Junior High (shown on PBS beginning in the late '80s). Those shows always had high production values and good scripts, so "Danger Keep Out!" (or is it "Oot"?) is no fluke on the filmmakers' part.

Definitely a well-riffed short. Mike, Kevin and Bill (plus the other writers) clearly got interested in the story, resulting in a lot of laughs. :)

As far as a short that might actually get it's point across to the target audience, and have a point that needs to be made, you might be correct.   There are other shorts done well but are either useless or fail to make their point.

You know you're Canadian when you recognize several Degrassi characters from the short. Plus, you start scanning for others during the classroom scenes.

I think "Christine" was only on the first season of DJH, and "Henry" is better known as DJH regular character Yick Yu. "Kiley" and "Mom" look familiar, but I can't think of their roles on the show.

And this short was made in '87, the year DJH started airing.

Geek time.

Christine was in Degrassi High. I don't think she was much more than a background player though, but her giant mohawk might have made her somewhat memorable.
Danger, Keep Out Mom was also Spike's Mom in Degrassi land.
Kiley/Urkel was Scooter.

I've no doubt you're right about those Degrassi people!

Yes, the girl with the mohawk; I recall her now!:D Always liked Spike's mom; what a voice she had. I remembered the name of Scooter's friend, Bartholomew Bond (jokingly referred to as "Mister Bond"), but couldn't think of Scooter 'til you brought it up.

  Kudos to the riff on the song at the end of the short; it's well thought out.

Technically, he does no such thing.  He tells the truth to them, but just leaves out the incriminating details until he and his pal can go rescue her (and be the heroes of the day, I figured.) He says to the folks "I know where they are" - or "I'm pretty sure I know where they are", or somesuch... and the scene proceeds to become ridiculous because the worrying parents don't stare agape and shout "WHERE?!?" - they just let the two brats go and fetch her.  Mind you, this is AFTER they've already panicked enough to call the cops (or would that be the Mounties?)

Yeah, but he earlier told his parents that Christine had come home and just left when the parents came in (and got Steve Urkel to lie, too).
