Suggestion for funnier riffs

Just a friendly critique. Rifftrax member for 2 1/2 years - MST3K fan from the start. I find the riffs that make me LMAO are the ones that contain the quick short comments and snide remarks. When the gang starts monologuing and go on & on with subjects that don't pertain to the movie, I more times than not just turn off the TV. Sorry guys...

goflyblind

every time you turn off the tv while they're riffing, they lose a testicle. you jerk.

edit: was that snide enough?

So... can you give some examples of jokes that do that? Are we talking riffs "It looks like a hotel room trashed by The Decemberists" or the spruce bark beetles references or what? I can't really think of places where the guys just went completely off the rails and started ranting about something that was completely unrelated to the film and I'm just curious which annoyed you like that.

And keep in mind some of the things that might not be funny to you might be hilarious to others. Tastes do differ.

Two words: dip recipe.

Two more words: Disembaudio's buddies.

They do it sometimes when a) there's a long stretch of dialog-free action, and b) somebody is "uncomfortable" with the onscreen action.

Perhaps a frog disection while riffing a movie is a funny suggestion.. :o
Ok, maybe carving strips of bacon from a smoked pig would be better :P

The guys actually refer to these monologues as "skits" sometimes.  Like the "Second Unit Director" skit from Prisoner of Azkaban.  (That one was hilarious to me.)  There is also the "Janitor Skit" in High School Musical and the infamous "Dip Recipe" skit in Episode III.

The thing to remember is that, on MST3K, the guys usually riffed about 1/3 to 1/2 of the movie.  The rest was chopped out for Host Segments (IE "skits") and commercials.  The skits in Rifftrax serve two purposes.  First, they give the guys something to do during parts of the movie that are really hard to riff.  Second, it gives the guys a chance to be creative and do their own thing.

Personally, I don't mind the skits, and even like some of them.  The "Venom Skit" at the end of the most recent Twilight movie was uproarious.  To each his own, I guess.  Most skits are only a couple of minutes long, so there is the fast-forward option.

Guys...Stop the long, drawn out conversations that you get into during the movie. When you start in like that, I usually turn off the TV because very rarely find the rest of the riff funny. Stick with the snide remarks and short quips like you've done on some of your greatest hits (remember MST3K.."Prince of Space", "Final Sacrifice")?

Some people like the monologues, myself included. You have to remember that back when they were riffing Prince of Space they were editing the movies down for television. If there was a scene that didn't lend itself to snide comments, they could cut it out. They can't do that with a movie on a customer's DVD. Sometimes they have to make do, and one tool for that is to talk over the scene entirely. Shouldn't be overused, and I don't think it is.

D.B.  I assume you're refering to the post I made on a different thread. Just so you have all the facts before spouting off, I posted it there before I saw the "Feedback Forum", which I thought was a more appropriate place to post my comment. When I went back to the other post, I wasn't able to delete it. So there you have it! I was just making a personal comment and didn't expect anybody to turn into an ignorant jackass about it.

So, you were looking around the forum for an appropriate place to lodge a critique about riff skits, and you decided the best place to post it was in the RiffTrax Player thread? Really?!? Not even the General RiffTrax talk thread, which is just above RiffTrax Player in the thread list?

I may be a jackass, but at least I'm not a moron.
