Yeah I am thinking more of an emotional reaction... indifference. I guess it's more or less impossible to not be affected in any way by anything, unless you're dead. So maybe read my "NO reaction is a reaction" as thus: "indifference is still a reaction."

I'd like to congratulate Leopold for having the enormous brass balls to define "art" for us. All this time I thought there was room enough in the vast world of creativity for art to be open to interpretation, but I guess I was wrong. Thank you for setting us all straight on what is and is not art. ::)

Just watched the Grind House preview/promo thing on FX and man I wish it was April 6th already!! Since they are going to have the film look all battered and worn and full of broken frames and what not,  I wonder how many joe six packs are going to think that something is wrong with the film print when watching this, and complain to the theaters.

It's one of the things I'll be worried about when I preview it on my lonesome.  Is there something wrong with our print or is Tarantino deliberately doing this?  ;)

Ah, the old "people who have different taste to me are mentally ill" argument, always a hit.

On the other hand, any scratches the print may accumulate over its (hopefully) long theater run won't detract from the experience.

You do realize at some point that statement (and it hurts me to say it) does become true.  Getting sexual pleasure from decapitation of women who are bound and gagged, would probably indicate mental problems.  Its all about where the damned invisible line is drawn.  Clearly we have to be able to say some people are legitamately sick and need help, and not merely shrug off their pedophilia or whatever as "personal taste".

So the question is can we draw the line in the sand as short as say a tarantino film?  Probably not im guessing.

Whatever you guys... I was trying to make a valid point. And I think it is quite valid. Too many directors resort to showing people sliced in half by razor wires and cut into bite-size chunks by blu-ray laserdiscs. It's cheap, it's stupid, and I never cared for it. Since even the cheapest of the cheap-ass directors resort to such tactics to try and bolster a films box office success... I submit to you once again... no it is NOT FREAKING ART!!!

your problem is leo is that your making an emotional argument not a rational one.  You need to  be able to make and support your side of it.

example

Art is something that cannot be well by lots of poeple.
Inserting lots of gore into a movie can be done easily by lots of movie makers
therefore lots of gore in a movie makes it not art.

Ok that was a badly worded poor example but its still more rational than

I think those movies arent art because i dont like seeing lots of gore.

So what? If you don't like those types of movies you don't go see those types of movies. There are plenty of directors making PG and PG-13 films for you to go see.  In your last posts you were saying Tarantino shouldn't be allowed to make the movies he wants to make. Which is ridiculous. You also can't tell me what is art and what isn't.
