Luke travels back in time, makes it so Anakin loses the pod race, starting a new timeline....

I once came very close to writing a fanfilm with more or less this plot. But only because I really wanted to use the title "The Empire Strikes Back to the Future".

The most I actually wrote was the line "Are you telling me you built a TIME MACHINE...out of a MANDALORIAN?"

The changes made to Star Wars were purely cosmetic, though (I don't entertain the notion that Han chosing to shoot back rather than just plain shooting alters the character greatly). The only completely new thing in all the SEs was the Han and Jabba dialogue in Ep. 4, and that was really more of a deleted scene, the new Song in Jabba's Palace (I'm not a fan, but it didn't really alter anything) and the new ending. The rest was a tweek here, a graphical implant there. The movies are all fundamentally the same.

This has always been pretty much my take on the special editions. The only possible exception I could make would be the Greedo shooting first thing... as   that was just stupid. As Pak said, it didn't alter the character much in the big picture... he was pretty much a cuddly good guy once he got defrosted in RoTJ anyways... so why even make that change? There was no need to make him anymore likable by turning Greedo into a bigger mutherfucker... everybody already LOVED Han Solo... That's my frustration, admittedly mild frustration, with Greedo shooting first... what was the damn point?

I feel I should mention that I didn't notice Greedo shooting first until other people mentioned it.  It happens so quickly that it doesn't alter Han's character that much.

Well, whether it happens quickly or whether it's drawn out over 20 minutes has nothing to do with how it alters his character.. but yea, it doesn't alter the character much at all in the big picture. That said, his digitally enforced head jerk to avoid Greedo's shot was pretty obvious to myself and most folks in the theater that night... it was the only WTF audience reaction of the whole night if I recall correctly.

Is that a joke or was that a real movie?
Oh, it's very real. Ironically, I find it way more fun than the movie it's ripping off.

(This video proves it has Shout Factory cred, which is the only kind of cred for some fans of MST3K & co. No such thing as Sony cred or Fox cred.)

Oh yeah, like the score? The makers of this low budget Italian production were able to snag John Barry for soundtrack duties!

I am shocked they didn't get sued,I mean even the poster is a rip off.

Tripe

It wouldn't be a very strong case, forgetting the arguments of the merits quality wise of the series, Star Wars isn't really all that original, and that's kind of the point; it's a tribute to all sorts of adventure movies and the like.

One of my good friends just ranted about that very same thing on Twitter. Are you guys watching TV together and you didn't invite me?

As much of a "Star Wars" fan/geek that I am (solely for the sword fight scenes) I'm not sure what the point was to re-release
Episode 1 in 3D. We've already suffered enough Jar Jar Binks. WHY?! Mr. Lucas? Why must you torment us so?

So, Abrams rebooting Star Wars, how would that go....

Luke travels back in time, makes it so Anakin loses the pod race, starting a new timeline....

Funny you should mention that. From AICN:

To be extremely clear here, this information comes to us from an untested source - who did provide some reasonable context for how he came across the tidbit I'm about to share. I've frequently found that the best way to establish "credible" / "reliable" sourcing is to throw their initial contributions into the fray and see what happens.  So with this disclaimer in mind, here we go...with fingers crossed.

Daniel contacted us with the following newslet about the long-in-development STAR WARS live action television series.  Presumably, he's referring to the show whose title we recently learned was STAR WARS UNDERWORLD.

Daniel tells us that one of the series' first episodes will involve a group of bandits acquiring the capability of time travel, and using it to travel back in time to stop Darth Vader from ever existing.

This is certainly in keeping with past indications we've heard about the show - that it would involve the "darker" side of the STAR WARS universe, criminal factions, Empire building, etc.  While "time travel" is relatively new to the film and television canon of the STAR WARS universe, it's a factor that has at least been acknowledge/discussed in the franchise's "Extended Universe" (details HERE).  As such, its potential inclusion in this show is not as remarkable as one might initially believe.

What do you think?  Are we ready for time travel in the STAR WARS mythos, or might its presence provide an irresistible temptation for Lucas to organically revise STAR WARS history even further?
