....She must've had some serious gambling debts to star in this one.

I would cut Ellen Burstyn some slack if she needed the $$$, but she was deliberately channeling  Louise Fletcher.  No excuse for that.

Time to take a stand:

Back in the Northern Exposure days, I thought Diane Delano was totally hot.

Funny.  :)

She doesn't look so much like a battle axe in this pic:

She looks like you'd pick her up in a bar for a one-nighter or something.

Not that I've ever done that.  :speechless:

There would be no going back from that....nope

Heysie

I don't get around to posting very often, but I just watched this this weekend and just have to say how much I loved this riff.  One of my favorites so far!  Reminded me of Island of Dr M for some reason.

Anyway, maybe someone can help me out here, because I was sort of getting myself some ice cream for a couple minutes and might have missed a plot point:  What did the car crash have to do with anything that happened later?  I mean, I know the little girl had blonde hair and braids, but...what did I miss?   ???    (Sorry if I'm seeming as dumb as Willow here.)

Favorite lines:  "How old are bears?" (Kevin in dumb Willow  voice.)
"It sounds fresh, like a country road after a spring rain."  (Kevin doing Nick Cage voice, referring to Summersile.)

It bamboozles me too. I've pondered this for nigh on a week and a half now, and the only conclusion I've been able to reach is that the gals on the island, before seducing cops, like to fake horrible car crashes in order to make sure they're properly traumatized first. I might just be grasping at straws, though. :^)

Get ready to step out and get some ice cream now, 'cuz guess what? The crash didn't have a GODDAMNED THING to do with the rest of the movie! As near as I could tell, the only reason it exists is so they could put it in the trailer and con people, for about thirty seconds, into thinking they were watching the trailer for Ghost Rider.

Actually a friend of mine pointed out to me that the women in the car crash were actually from Summersisle and were either trying to escape, or set Nick up to feel more sympathy for the Rowan being lost because he wasn't able to save the girl in the crash, so he wanted to save her instead. That's why there were flashbacks with bees and stuff. And it's also why the car wasn't registered, because they were non-existant to the public on Summersisle. It doesn't make it any better of a movie, however.

But they were all standing there in the last scene. What's that mean?

Quicksilver

The latter explanation makes sense. I think it was supposed to trick him into having horrible regrets over watching the girl die. Even though she didnt.

One thing I'm confused about, were the women giving him his meds? I figured they were giving him some cocktail of drugs to make him hallucinate and go crazy, besides the drink at the bar on the island..

Again I'm thinking far too hard about this plot, why does it intrigue me so much?
