Movie #27: Bride of Frankenstein

Somehow I've managed to have never seen this, despite loving the original Frankenstein. This one is even better. Karloff is great and I loved the scene with the blind man, which is one of the best parts from the book. 4.5/5

#26 - I Saw the Devil

Second viewing of this one and I found it just as interesting, intense, and awesome as the first time. Good lord, this movie is intense! You don't so much watch this movie as much as experience it on multiple emotional levels. If you're at all a fan of revenge movies, this is an absolute must-see.

MOVIE GRADE: A

#27 - AVP: Alien vs. Predator (with Riff Raff Theater iRiff)

I'd sort of forgotten how lame this movie was. There's really nothing there and it comes off as a desperate attempt to suck the last breath out of the franchises. The premise is pretty stupid and the execution is just whatever. That, coupled with some pretty glaring incongruities, makes for a bad movie. The riff, on the other hand, is great. Good writing and very solid performances were what I came to expect from RRT, and they never let me down. Listening to this riff really made me pine for the good ol' days when they were putting out riffs on a regular basis. I miss those guys.

Well, since Maniac and Night of the Living Dead count for the same day, and there's not much more to say than:

Maniac: Absurd
Night of the Living Dead: Classic, if a bit dated now

Got caught up in stuff today, and almost missed today's movie...would've been a real kick in the pants to screw up now.

Dark and Stormy Night (2008)
Have you seen Lost Skeleton of Cadavra?  If so, you know what you're in for.  Larry Blamire and friends send up old mystery/horror films set in spooky old houses, with intentionally terrible dialogue (but well-written terrible dialogue, if that makes any sense) such as, "Better a death threat than a threat of death" and "His brow caught the embers like small, flaming children."  At the reading of the Cavender will, death is on the menu when a crazed killer dubbed the "Phantom" starts offing everyone one by one in order to get the biggest share of the inheritance.  But that's only part of it: the cook is crazy, there's a secret lurking in the attic, a seance, and, of course, there's a gorilla wandering around for no apparent reason.

While not rated, it's more of a soft PG if it were, but that doesn't mean it's not amusing.  Definitely recommended.
One Man Band Riffs.  18 riffs, over 600 served, since 2009.

Movie #28: Gremlins
Not as good as I remember it from when I was younger, but still a pretty fun movie.  3.5/5

Movie #29: Them!
Pretty good 50's giant monster movie (ants, in this case).  Given the time period, the ants looked really good.  3/5

One more decade, the 20's, left for my decades achievement.  And, oh look, Nosferatu is on Hulu.  I guess I know what I'm watching tonight.  I think the only achievement I have left after that (other than the 31 movies and the one for getting all the other achievements) is the one about watching a movie with a friend. Going to remedy that tomorrow as me and a buddy of mine always get together the weekend of Halloween and marathon horror movies.

An update from me. I am at 98 titles. By the end of the night, I'll be at 99 (thanks SyFy Zombie movie!) Barring catastrophe, I should finish this sucker out having completed my 100 movie goal and having not repeated any films from last year. Woot.

On the downside, as I started watching "Carrie"  I noticed a lot of meteors coming out of the sky in the credits. Thinking "Hmmm. I don't remember those..." I quickly realized that I had in fact rented the remake. I had also forgotten that there was a remake of this film. (I did remember the sequel though. Shudder.) Oddly enough, both Carrie and Freddy vs. Jason have Katharine Isabelle in them. I should watch Ginger Snaps to make it a hat trick.

Crap!  I need to do that, too.  Lot of zombies and vampires this year, but only one werewolf movie so far.  I even went ahead and bought the Canadian import edition of that.  Only way to get Special Features and 16x9 widescreen, since the U.S. release is crap (at least, back when I bought it; don't know if it ever got a better one).

Ah, well.  Sunday or Monday will have to do.  Already getting From Beyond in the can.  Already gross, the Unrated cut released to DVD a few years ago took things a step further.  Pure goofy horror entertainment of the finest B-grade quality.  Very little beats Jeffrey Combs walking at a camera and saying, "It ATE his head...like...a gingerbread...MAN!"

And Peter from Dawn of the Dead is in it.  Not a huge kill count, but it more than makes up for it in many, many other ways.

well i somewhat doubt ill make 31 but made some good progress.

Masters of horror Imprint
the infamous too much for tv episode from miike.  it is pretty disturbing, but the story is kinda wacky, i dunno im not a big fan of this one i do like some of miikes work though.

zombie (i call it zombi 2 though).
got to see the new blu ray in a theater which was quite fun.  believe it or not this is the first movie me and my girlfriend ever watched together (you know if she can take zombi 2 than its love), so we reminisced while seeing it on the big screen in great quality.  i still think its one of the great zombie movies lacking romero's intelligence but the insanity of it all puts it way in the upper echelon.

Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me
not the movie twin peaks fans(myself included) wanted but pretty good.  bob is pretty horrific.

looking forward to me and my friends annual ritual of some vincent price movies for halloween.

Movie #30: They Live
One of my favorite Carpenter movies. Lots of fun. 4/5

Movie #31 Maniac with RiffTrax
This movie is awful, not even so bad it's good, just bad. 1/5

Movie #32 Leprechaun in da Hood

I was totally wasted while watching this, and I don't remember the ending at all. What I remember was pretty terrible. 1.5/5

This has been an amazingly productive day, and I STILL managed to get in a movie (and, if I'm lucky, I'll be posting my next iRiff either later tonight or tomorrow...just in time for Halloween!  ;D).

Second to last movie of the month:
Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Wererabbit (2005)

Ok, it's the only movie I could get anyone to watch with me.  Still hysterical, even if not particularly bloodthirsty.
One Man Band Riffs.  18 riffs, over 600 served, since 2009.

I've got 2 more "real" horror films to watch tomorrow. In the meantime, I'm just watching horror films riffed on MST3k.

#28 - Triangle

This was the second time watching this so it didn't have as much of a WOW factor, but I still enjoyed it. This is really well done. Great atmosphere and pretty damn scary.

MOVIE GRADE: B+

#29 - The Others

This is just a really good ghost story, and by far my favorite Nicole Kidman performance. The atmosphere is off the charts here. I love the ending, too. It's a very haunting film.
