New Short "Setting Up a Room" Now Available! (Intro sketch inside.)

Setting Up a Room is about two women setting up a kindergarten classroom. It lasts for 27 minutes.

To attempt to explain anything more about it would be an act of futility. It is one of the most baffling pieces we've ever encountered here at RiffTrax. It may not be for everyone. Like one of those Magic Eye images, you may have to stare at it for a little while before its brilliance snaps into place. Fortunately, you will have plenty of time to do this, because as we mentioned earlier, it is 27 minutes long.

No detail of the room-setting-up is unaddressed. Blocks are put away one by one. Cubby doors are tested to make sure they can fully be opened. Pegboard placement is hotly debated. And all the while a simmering resentment bubbles beneath the surface between the two leads. Probably because they were forced to appear in a 27 minute short instructing other adults how to set up a room.

1) I bought this the second I read '27 minutes.'

2) That was by far the most extravagant kindergarten class I've ever seen. Where was my woodworking bench, art easels, and fully functioning house?! All I had was 25 legos, The Berenstain Bears, and a frog.

3) I would like everyone to keep in mind that, unlike most of these shorts, this was not made for children with thoughts of Safety Island and what to do with grasses. This was made for adults. Just let that sit in your mind for a minute.

And yeah, after seeing that vignette, I think it would have been cool it this had been a Mike, Conor and Sean riff.

EXCEPT FOR HOW TO SET UP A FREAKING IRONING BOARD! Seriously, they mention doing it at least three times like it's a major plot point, and it's the one thing they don't bother ever showing!

So I went into this not really knowing what I was getting into.  Figured it'd just be another goofy mid/late last-century short of madness.  Then for the first 3 or 4 minutes.... not much happened.  Bill riffed "At this time Rifftrax would like to remind you to look at the "time remaining" counter on your media player."

I looked.

27 minutes left.

I busted out laughing.

This was some good, odd, stuff.

Yea, I need to see them build the Ironing board..... And check the doors on the fridge and oven again...... And what board games did they place for the kids......... This short has too many unanswered questions...............

By the gods, I almost blacked out around the 20 min mark due to loss of air from laughing. Almost every line is a riffTrax quote.

And the dark haired teacher is almost cute, wait I am getting distracted............ But yea unplain her a bit....... Focus.......




I have a theory, maybe this was a short to make teachers understand the pain it gives to watch a film like this. Like the How to Use Classroom Films and Choosing A Classroom Film for teachers.

Yeah the younger teacher had a sexy librarian/kindergarten teacher thing going on.  I can just picture this being shown to whatever audience was felt needed to see it and then afterwards they all turned to each other and just went "WTF was the point of that?!"  And I thought some of training videos I've been through were bad.

And that was the single most elaborate school room I have ever seen.
