I'm still waiting for ILM to complete their most ambitious project ever: digitally remastering George Lucas's beard.

I suppose the only problem I REALLY have with any of the changes is they might make the Blu-rays Non-Rifftrax-Compatable...

Doctor Who?

Hey if Lucas treats this new SE like the old the guys may end up having to record a new version of the Rifftrax.  In six months the old SE may not even be around any more.

Here is the thing.  Star wars is one of those movies that people who study films have to see if they are to understand how films were made after it.  It's one of those films that changed the way Hollywood worked after it was released.  If future film students want to understand why Hollywood is the way it is today they will need to be able to see the film and compare it with the films that came before, how are you supposed to do that if the only version that's out is one that has had scenes and special effect added decades latter?  It may not seem like a big deal to you or me but imagine you are someone who was born in the past decade and you want to understand film and you try to watch all the truly groundbreaking films to understand why they changed the way films are made, wouldn't you be a little upset that the SEs are the only version you can watch?

So many films from the silent and early sound era are lost or only survive in an edited form that someone at some point thought "made them better' or "fixed the movie" I just find it kind of tragic that the same thing is happening to a much more recent film.

That is not even touching the fact that two of these films are films that Lucas didn't even direct. Lucas didn't even write the script he wrote a story outline and produced.  Given how much he complains about producers messing with films he directed why does he think it's okay for him to do the thing he complains about people doing to him?

Hidden Fortress.  Star Wars is not in itself worthy of that much study artistically, but its impact (along with Jaws) in the way films are distributed and how it changed the studios approach in making films is certainly interesting and of importance.
