Personally, I think this would be the best forum to ask if someone wants to meet up with him.   I mean, the board is full of Rifftrax fans, why not ask?   What can be lost by taking a chance.....nothing.

And the snarky response is PERFECTLY in line with the Rifftrax esthetic.

That is why I wrote this thread is made of win.

Thank you!

I see no reason why a sincere post looking a fun night out and a snarky joke can't exist side-by-side. Seems to me, sincerity and snark commingle quite often around here. And I certainly didn't mean to demean the guy or imply that he was being anything but sincere. I don't think anyone questioned his sincerity.

Anyway, I'm sorry if I upset the guy and wish him the best of luck on his search for a date.

Yeaaaaaa....I do think though that replying to a sincere ad by posting a personals ad by a morbidly obese compulsive masturbator who lives with his parents and writes Rainbow Bright slashfic  could *perhaps* lead the original poster to believe you are mocking him.  And yes, snark and sincerity everywhere on the forum, but c'mon...you had no idea it might be demeaning...really?

It was meant as a harmless joke. I have no control over how somebody interprets it. And if somebody's gonna get that bent out of shape about something so innocuous, they're most likely not going to have that great a time around here.

Besides, the guy was making himself out to be quite the catch. If I were mocking him, wouldn't I have have simply exaggerated his tone rather than going in the complete opposite direction?

I thought (and he thought, apparently) that your response was indicative of your opinion of personal ads and of him in particular.  I get that it wasn't intended that way, I'm just saying I understand why he would think it was a slam.  Point taken though, that it was just meant as a joke.

RoninFox

I'm the last person who should ever mock this guy considering I met my wife when she emailed me from a dating site and one of our early dates was the Plan 9 Rifftrax Live. Don't let some jokes get you down, it's all a layer of snark over a creamy nougat center of friendship and with peanuts if you're into that.

I stand by my slam on Compuserve though. Fuck those guys.

Sorry.  I didn't mean to be cruel.  We were just joking around.

Nah, edited more because it was just dudes replying rudely.

Yeah I love a good joke (this IS Rifftrax after all!) but not what was spewed in reply; vitriol & bile are a poor replacement for snark & wit, my friends. Maybe like Mike in Chamber of Secrets, consider taking a break from riffing for a while!? haha

All this does raises an interesting distinction to me... one of the things I like about Rifftrax / MST3k...  the humor is never demeaning just to be hurtful; even when Mike & the bots... err Kevin & Bill, are tearing into each other, there is still an underlying decency. Guess that's why most MSTies I've meet are really kind people... ANYWAY

IOW long way of saying I like Rifftrax because cheap shots are generally seen as what they are... cheap... and such, are generally not worthy of laying down. Due to personal pride, I imagine...

I honestly don't know what you mean about "making himself out to be quite the catch"; was laying out truth nuggets, simple & clear. If you can't imagine such a person, it must be false eh!? Sorry for you!

@RoninFox
Great story; thx for sharing! :)

Anyway, it was worth a shot,  but alas no takers :(

(if i may paraphrase Blazing Saddles... "Where all the wimmen at!?" haha)

Stay funny y'all! :D

Might as well go with the full unabridged quote: "Where all da white women at?"  That's the only kind of woman at the last Rifftrax Live I attended.

(Before anyone jumps on me, this is an observation, not a judgement.)

"I was at a restaurant where the waitress came up to me and said quietly, 'I don't mean to be racist, but there's a lot of Asian people here.'  That's not racist.  That's an observation.  There were a lot of Asians there.  Now if she came up to me and said, 'What's with all these Asian people here?', then, yeah, that'd be racist." --some comedian I don't remember (I wanna say it was Louis C.K., but I don't remember)

Truth nuggets...that smell worse than cat turds. Seriously, clean your litter box of sorrow.

You are correct, sir. He has a similarly great bit on his FX show about tipping in a restaurant.

Awesome. He has given me so much joy and insight.  Can't believe I haven't seen any of "Louie" yet.  Gonna get on that soon.

Do not tarry in this endeavor. It's a fantastic show.
"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere.
Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen."
