they have an agenda, its pure and simple.  they also dont have enough history majors there to have an intelligent unbiased opioned.
I'm curious how an body of individuals can have an agenda?  Just heard an interview tonight with one of the voters and he flat out said, it's not like these guys gather in some cave and discuss how they want to do things and who deserves what.  They're all just voting for what they think deserves to win.  It just so happens that from time to time the majority agree and feel a certain way about something.  Logical, justified or not.

Variety of Cells

Maybe it's more along the lines of the gay agenda.

From the gay guys I've met, their only unified agenda is having sex with men.

Hmm...

Wasn't Nanook found out to be staged by the director?
Which makes the parallel with Fucking Liar Michael Moore's work all the more apropos.

I dunno, I think not having sex with women is another strong point.  ;)

Ok, I didn't watch the Oscars... haven't in years. However, I did just get done watching "The Departed". I guess the academy didn't want to come right out and call it a 'Lifetime Achievement" award, but that's what it was. It's almost a slap in face to some of his other works to make this the only one worthy of "Best Picture". Heck, it wasn't even the man's best remake.

I've seen four of the five best picture nominees (haven't seen Babel yet), and I easily thought Iwo Jima and The Queen were both more deserving. Don't get me wrong, I thought The Departed was a very good movie. It's just that I don't know if it would even make my personal Scorsese top five.

The gay agenda....(or what homophobes think gay people do)
Morning
1. wax body from head to toe
2. read Barbra Streisands blog
3. eat non fat yogurt while watching Ellen.
afternoon
1. run six miles while listening to Cher.
2. watch Oprah.
3. chat on the phone with 'girl friends'.
nighttime
1. get ready to clubb'n.
2. continue to get ready to go clubb'n
3. go clubb'n, do some x, find stud, take stud home.
Repeat each day....oh and take over the world.

Did any of you see Monster House? THAT was the best animated movie of the year. Hands down.

Cars was ok, though, nothing compared to the rest of Pixar's work.

I couldn't agree with you more Edward! While Cars was a good movie it was easily one of pixars worst....can't give the Oscar to Pixars worst movie....not saying its a bad movie its just no where as good as Monster inc., finding nemo, toys, etc.

And yes Monster House ruled.

3.  The ridiculous amount of praise lavished upon Al Gore, which at times bordered upon fellatio.  Until tonight, I still had some respect for Mr. Gore as a (relatively) good statesman, and I thought that An Inconvenient Truth was a solid documentary (though far from the best of the year).  But I would've been able to tolerate it, if it weren't for the announcer's idiotic linkage of Hurricane Katrina to global warming (because large hurricanes are not really natural disasters, but are a recent phenomenon brought about by YOU, the consumer, when you bought that SUV).  Oh, which reminds me...

That is what bothered me about the announcer, he said something to the effect that global warming caused Hurricane Katrina. It most certainly did not. What Al Gore tried to convey in the film, was that global warming places a bias on the randomness of hurricane strengths. We'll have more cat 5 storms, doesn't mean every storm will be a cat 5.

You mean like that huge upswing in Cat. 5 storms in 2006?

Well yes, its like rolling a die that has a known bias, maybe it's probability of rolling a 6 is 1 out 2, it doesn't mean every other value has no chance of being rolled.

I think you're missing the sarcasm. Al Gore and his ilk swore that Hurricane Katrina, as well as the entire unusually-active 2005 hurricane season were the result of anthropogenic global warming (without a shred of concrete evidence to bolster their claim, of course), and that this was a trend which would continue AND increase in subsequent years. The 2006 hurricane season was unusually quiet.

Translation: Even if none of the events contained in our dire, hysterical predictions actually happen, that doesn't mean our predictions were actually wrong.

You missed the point here, its a frequency of storms not a predicition. Understanding behavior is not the same thing as saying "the next ten storms will be cat 5."

Pak-Man

To put it another way, if the weatherman gives an 80% chance of rain, and it doesn't rain, the weatherman was right. There was still an 80% chance of rain. :^)
