I thought I would start a topic on this, seeing how as other people who have watched this amazing film might want to discuss it. It was awesome when I saw it in theaters, and better the 2nd time around on DVD. It has moved into my top 10 favorite films of all time.

Did you guys enjoy it as well?

I haven't seen it yet, but I'm planning on renting it this week.  What I'm wondering is whether or not this movie is supernatural or if it is a realistic story about magicians and their craft.  I'm going to watch it either way, but I'm hoping that there is some "real" magic in it.  Anyone mind dropping me a hint, so I don't go into it expecting the wrong type of film?

My friend just lent it to me, and I'm unfortuantely too tired right now to watch it =)

I am actually very fond of Scarlett Johansen, and I respect Christian Bale quite a bit as well - looking forward to it.

I'll post a review of the film tomorrow morning =)

It's not about Wizards and Hocus Pocus.  It is about the careers of 2 Stage Magicians (Ricky Jay plays their Mentor), who become very bitter rivals, told in flashback.

And it is awesome.

And I wouldn't read anything beyond this post, as spoilers would seriously ruin the movie.

Yeah, this was a great movie. It's not going to knock any of my personal top ten off of their pedestal, but it was still really good.

It's Christopher Nolan. I don't think there has been a film of his yet that I haven't liked.

Also, I apparently haven't seen David Bowie in a while because I was really shocked by how he looked in this film. He was really cool as Nikola Tesla though.
Those are my principles, and if you don't like them...well, I have others.

This is now one of my most favorite movies! I snatched it as soon as i could.  This is one of those movies that makes you think and try to figure everything out as you go through it, I love how they put that quote on the cover that says "You want to see it again the second its over!" You definatly do! the acting is great, I love the cinematography a lot. I dont have any complaints for this movie. Definatly worth it to have in your DVD collection.

It most certainly is. If you have been missing movies with a good story for sometime now(w/o them being indie films), then you will most certainly enjoy this. And as far as the magic goes, it's got plenty of real stuff for turn of the 20th century London. I think you'll dig it.

Out of the two magic movies that came out this year I enjoyed the Prestige way more.

Oh yeah. I thought The Illusionist was pretty good, but The Prestige just blew it out of the water.

Oh. My. Gosh.....

FLIPPIN AWESOME

**SPOILERS**

Now, I use the term "flippin" (flip'.ehn. - eng der.) quite often....but this movie deserves it more than any movie I saw within the last ten months (with the exception of Pan's Labrynth which was also quite good).

The movie succeeded in just about /every/ way a movie can. Jackman was excellent. Bale was superb. Caine was magnificent. Bowie was brilliant. The story was fantastic. The direction was perfect.

I predicted the twist regarding Bale's twin about halfway through the movie, but that did nothing regarding my overall enjoyment. And at the very end, where we see about twelve frames-worth of Hugh Jackman /still/ alive I was like "oh yeah...."

I loved Angier's character, and sympathized with him much more than I sympathized with Bale (am I alone with this sentiment?). Angier's story of trying to prove to himself and to the world that he was better than a young, pompous, and cold (albeit talented) rival performer (who managed to cause the death of his wife...) was totally gripping.

The movie was like the "Amadeus" of illusions..... Absolutely stunning. It is now in my top ten list of all time.

No, delete it J-proof. It'll ruin it.  :speechless: Seriously. Or just leave off the third paragraph.

Or use spoiler tags...

I liked the movie, I did not love it.  Like others have said, Nolan has yet to make a bad movie.  Right away, I predicted the twist where

But overall a very solid, well done, enjoyable movie, I'd give it a 8/10.
