Flag on the joke!

Gratuitous 80's musical reference; fifteen-yard penalty!

I don't doubt it...

Two jokes enter; one joke leaves...

haha...good times man...

But you know, I almost want to discuss star trek movies again...I think this whole thing started when I ripped on Star Trek III...

..but if we can put the past behind us...I'll say II was a good movie, if you'll agree with me that the first movie was a major WTF moment... ;D

sarcasm_made_Easy

i kinda liked star trek the motion picture,  yeah it was long as hell in parts that didnt need to exist but the overall idea of the satiellite we created becoming sentient then turning on us was kinda cool.  And if you think that was bad, what did you think of event horizon which was a horror movie with about the same plot

Nunyerbiz

Khan is the only Trek movie that I would consider "good", just because it had a great over-the-top Montalban and a great over-the-top Shatner (before he turned his particular gift as an actor into a self-parody). I also did enjoy a few of the other even numbered ones. I thought The Motion Picture was decent, but yes... they were definitely trying too hard. It was if they made a conscious decision to shake off any notion of the inherent 60's campiness of the original series by being as dour and pretentious as possible. Great story for the forty minutes and change needed for the series... dunno about padding it to over two hours.

It looked pretty, but holy CRAP was it slow.

I know, I can't explain why I liked it really...because I know it wasn't a "good" movie...

...maybe it was what I was eating at the time, who knows, but I def. remember enjoying how dark it was...

Well thats a horse of a different color, there are quite a few movies i like that i know suck.  To be honest daredevil is one of them.  Its a dumb dumb dumb movie, thats poorly made.  And yet i cant help liking it for some reason.  There are just movies that fall into that personal category.

Nunyerbiz

There is an intrinsic value to movies that has nothing to do with any combination of their production aspects. The "value of the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts" argument, if you will. For example, I will not argue that Commando and Bloodsport are awful movies when looking at any aspect of production (acting, direction, screenwriting, etc). Come to think of it, I doubt anybody would give me an argument even if I sought one out. That said, I find both movies to be perfectly entertaining.

sarcasm_made_Easy

i think bloodsport is a pretty STUPID movie overall, that said its watchable.

Pak-Man

The REAL value of a movie is found in its entertainment value (That IS what movies are made to do, right?) and good acting, deep scripting, great dialogue, great special effects, and compelling story are all icing. They can make it better, but they are not necessary to make a good cake, nor do they qualify as cake if that's all you have. There's that intangible quality to a movie that transcends everything else and comes out as pure entertainment whether other elements fail or not.

Take Ghost Rider. Just about every positive review I've scene has all been to the tune of, "The acting was horrible and the dialogue was cheesy, but I had fun watching it!" Ghost Rider is cake without the icing, and sometimes that makes for some darn good cake. Maybe it even means that the cake is all the better because it can stand on its own without the icing. :^)
